Are they Hex or that dreaded multiple point fook your head job's?

Personally I recommend Hex or better still (forget the term) the sockets that grab the flats and can't round the head

50:50 on that one,

I would be hesitant to whack a £25 quid tool with hammer when a £3 quid one will do the same job once !

I have good tools and i have "live for the moment" tools

BTW, after many weeks of "sales pitch" from a snap on rep' i bought break bar and broke it within a fortnight Got a new one free ( feckin just as well) plus some deep hex head sockets as a sorry - what we never resolved was i would break that "strong arm" just as quick removing the wheel nuts I had previously tried, agreed to two more renewals before they wouldn't exchange again - I showed him the pivot pin giving up to stop his BS sales patter !

Everything in perspective - and i have also had Teng tools too

I have a Snap On 1/2" drive ratchet.....................it is at least 50 years old the patent number on it is from the 1930s.........................it still works beautiflly.

Eack click of the ratchet is perfect. I love using it. I can dismantle it, clean it, regrease it and rebuild. It is a thing of beauty

If I'd broken a breaker bar getting wheel nuts off I'd consider an alternative method.

And hitting a ratchet with a hammer is no matter what make it is plain stupid if not dangerous

More spanners or slide bars - jeez, i've cut spanners up and welded into a different shape so i could get a nut with out a special tool - imagine doing that with your 50yr old tool.

BTW, I do get what your on about - if i had been able to bring my tool boxes over here I would of - 16yrs of knowledge left behind

Each time i'm back i pick up a few bits (gave them away to mates) as i know they will always be needed.

I also find snap on is about "show" good chrome, Britool will last just as long and great customer service. Some draper makes the grade too and shock of all shock the Halfords pro range is as good as anything out there

halfords pro screwdrivers are sh*te mate nowhere near as good as my £4.99 set from morrisons.

I've a couple of Halfords pro combi spanners and they seem fine.

I love making a home made thingy-ma-jig to get round buying a special tool.

I made my own tool for the front spindle nut on my GSXR K2 and a tool for holding the fork internals on my Triumph Sprint in fact I've made two or three of them for different bikes.
Before I had an air gun I made an asortment of clutch holding tools best was a front sprocket wielded to a cheap adjustable wrench prob not good for the gearbox but it worked

Some succesful others not. and skinned knuckles to show for it too

made a few meself in the past, castleated sockets for removing zxr750 engines which are gonna come in handy on saturday. glad i kept them from the previous zxr750 now. spindle tools from a couple of nuts and a bolt.

its worth buying good kit imo, i was using untill about a year ago my dad's socket set, what he got off his dad so would have been around 60+ years old. Sure it wasnt perfect but the fact that there that old and still worked made them worth the masive ammount they cost new (somthing like £10!!, the box still has the price tag inside lol)

Stuff like thats brill if your not going to be using it to offern and your not dependent on it working, but if your at a race meet and just doing up your rear wheel before a race and it stops working your going to be properly pissed off!

totally agree Rene, i would pay the earth for my dads tools, i tend to scour boot sales for tools as thats where you will find old tools that withstand being used more than a handful of times and when they were made to do the job not and not as a money making scheme.

Funny this came up as iv just got back from halfords after perving over a 230 odd piece tool chest with tools, from 90 down to 50 quid.

I bought a socket set, plus other bits n bobs included, from Argos about 8 years ago and not had a problem with it till last week when the ratchet for the sockets gave up, absolutely gutted not just because it had broke but was my 'trusty' tool set. I could easily buy a new ratchet but will it fit in my BMC?

Anyways, pretty much decided on this tool set from Halfords and the old set will act as spare! I will in the future buy some serious tools like snap-on because of thier lifetime guarantee, which speaks volumes to me.
