school boy error

i commited the ultimate school boy error yestarday morning. ive spent the winter making my bike summer worthy with spraying, cleaning and servicing pretty much everything on the bike. i had some new bt090's fitted last week ready for the summer and went to take it for an mot at bout 8.30 yestarday, neway i never made it to the mot, i got about 100m when the back end came round on me as i pulled out of my street and highsided me of the back, luckily i was ok but all that work i did over the winter has been undone.
to be fair its not to bad, thanks to the r+g mushrooms which i reckon have saved me a good several hundred pounds worth of damage.
heres the list i what i damaged;
- left mirror
- clutch lever
- rear indicator
- posibly bent left rearset and gear lever
-scratch to headlight fairing (touched up)
-scratch to left side panel and scratched stickers
-tiny crack to my xmas prezzy, my aftermarket undertray (repaired)
-bent my tail tidy (repaired)

luckily it wasnt the right hand side cuz it would have totalled the exhaust etc.

neway i put my experiance on here, cuz i was cocky on my little zxr400 and it bit me in the bum, but you fall over so that you can stand back up again and thats what im gonna do!

Damn man, you gotta be so careful on new tyres. Im having a new set put on the bike on thursday, hoping for a dry day to scrub them in before it pisses it down with rain!

Unlucky, as you say put it down to experience (lesson learnt no doubt) and get on with it.

oh yeh lesson learnt alright, iv touched up all the scratches and orderd new levers etc from m+p direct (recommended) cost me £21.00. i managed to file the gauges out of the mirror - i couldnt believe it either, it worked so well im gonna try on my crash mushrooms see if it does the trick and then i can put off buying some new ones for a while. i had no choice cuz you can only get white mirrors from kawasaki and i dont want to know how much that would have cost. my bits should be about a week and i shall be ordering a new can from mtc this week sometimeand then all i gotta do is wait for the weather which isnt looking to bad at the mo so fingures crossed.

Harsh, at least you're ok, and it's just cosmetic. Though I guess cosmetic can sometimes be quite costly. Sounds like you got off lightly though and at least you're not damaged!

If you need any cheap parts I might have the

- left mirror (White)
- clutch lever
- rear indicator
- Left Rearset

I'd let them go cheap.

Oh this thread reminded me, had my new tyres put on. Did you get a warning to be careful on them you bought them? Compnay i get them from at home called Watling Tyres always give a verbal warning about new tyres as well a big fat sticker on the job sheet to tell not to use full power untill '100 dry running in miles have been covered'. Anyways, i was expecting all this speil when i got mine from Orwells but not a word said. Paid the money and that was that :S

You probably didn't look like a Dickhead to them!

I had a discussion about running-in miles elsewhere, and it seemed I'm not alone in saying it's easily possible in under 10 miles to do it safely and effectively. The 100 miles figure is basically to Numpty-proof everything, but even then it's no guarentee that you're not going to lean it over further on your 101st mile and highside it.

it's definatly possible in under 10 miles, it's all about how much and when you put the power on while your leant over. you can have the tyres for 500 miles but if you still haven't scrubbed the sides in you still can't get the power down without sliding and risking a highside. the front tyres the only one i pay attention to when scrubbing em in, the rear can do what it likes mostly it's not an issue.

the warnings are there as said to compensate for people without any common sense. the garage i go to always try to get as much of the tyre scrubbed in asap on the test ride anyway but he still gives everyone the warning regardless of their experience just to cover his own back.

well thats what its all about, covering themselves, im just surprised i wasnt told thats all.

Easily done in ten miles, when i had the tyres put on, went for a run for half to find some twisty bits of road and roundabouts. The only way you can run them in is to get the thing leant over.

yeh i totally agree, i went out sunday to scrub them in and after about 20mins in the twisties they were fine, ive only got bout an inch of chicken stripes left but that will be gone soon im going to ireland in march so they'll definetly be gone by the time i get back. Anyway the bikes all fixed up now, new levers feel ace ive only bought patterned ones but because they are lighter i have much more feel i would defo recomend ditching the standard ones. thanks for the offer on those parts i probs would have taken some from you but id allready ordered new but cheers anyway.
