what happened to the section on oil?

Post by saka_ZXR »

where did it go?

Im buying some oil tomorrow and wanted to know on the type.

I can get 5L of Rock oil for a tenner so i swear by it on all the bikes ive had but just wondered on the synth.
If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.

I thought it was a no on synthetic? Something to do with the clutch slipping? Although not all synthetics will cause slippage... I just use Motul semi syn.

Fully synths have been known to cause clutch slip. But some people just don't have that problem...I just use semi to be sure

The problem is that much the same as tyre technology, oil technology has moved on a massive amount in the last 15 years.

This means that the fully synthetic oil that was around when the 400 first came out was the equivalent of sand and dog-snot compared to the fully synthetic that we use today.

I don't know if fully synthetic would cause any problems, but I DO know that people have said it caused their clutch to slip... and I've never had a problem with semi in any of my bikes so why take the chance? I am sure that any semi you cna buy today will be a Hell of a lot better than the best stuff that was around in 1990!
Who needs tyres when you've got knees!!
