Aftermarket Coils

Post by intra »

I wasn't sure where to put this so I'm just putting it here. A moderator can move it if they want to.

Do any aftermarket manufacturers (I was thinking Dyna) offer a coil that I can run on my ZXR racebike? I put up a thread in the wanted section looking for a set of coils (I'm getting infinity on the secondary when testing with a multimeter, the primary resistance is within the range though) and was thinking that I'd rather a new set of coils instead of a 15-20 year old secondhand set. I've tried the Dyna website but it won't load for me.

If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd send you a whole bunch of e-love, e-drugs, e-whores or whatever it is that takes your fancy.

Cheers.

I just want to add that I've checked the voltage on the common red wire to the coil and I'm reading 12.17Vdc.

Thanks for the link mate, that's interesting. Does anyone know of anyone who makes aftermarket stick coils for the zx6r or any bikes that run them? I'm not too sure on the state of the dielectric in secondhand coils. My googling skills seem to be failing me tonight.

I would have thought though that the internal resistance/winding ratio of the zxr coils is known, as well as the input voltage, so it would be possible to match the coils to another set offered by an aftermarket company? They are just a little inductive transformer to step-up the voltage for the spark plugs yeah?

My '99 ZX9R C2 has stick coils but I'm not sure if they're standard! I think they're made by Denso...

can't see any reason why you can't put Dyna coils on the zxr?

Yeah I've sent Dyna an email today to confirm whether or not the 2 output, 3 ohm coils that I think I can use can be used. I'm 95% sure that I will be able to use them.

It's all systems go with Dyna. Good price from the Australian distributors too.
