failed MOT - need & want EBC prolite rear

Need a rear disc as mine has failed the MOT, i knew it felt warped but didnt think it was a failure, got an advisory on the fronts. I cant believe it, they have only done 6K miles and they are warped already front wheel bearing has also had it and has done the same mileage. WTF?? A fork seal (had that done last week), front bearing and brake disks all shot in 6K miles??? I suspect tho, i may have over tightened the front axle as when i was putting the fork back on, the wheel had a hard time turning and the calipers werent even back on. So backed it off and it turns freely. Still, need new bearings now which i already have.

Also failed on the headlight as it was too low, which explains a hell of alot, why they are too low i dont know, they passed last year and ever since i changed those bulbs i knew something wasnt right. Those Osram night breakers improved things alot, but looks like theres more to be had!!

Aaand finally the exhaust was blowing, but that might have something to do with the '5 minute home made baffle' with a 5mm outlet to be fair tho, had a look today and its blowing even with the baffle out so a bit of sealant round where the headers join the link pipe and round where the can joins and it should be good to go!

Mechanic said the disk could be corrosion between the disk and hub, so checked today and cleaned it up but still feels the same. Not too concerned with the fronts just yet since they were an advisory and will find out if they are warped or sat on the hub crooked before i bin them, also dont have the funds at the moment!

So, I need the cheapest price i can get, after the REAR disk and i want a new one. Cheapest i can find so far is £65.78 with free postage from motorcycle road and race. Who do you lot know then???

reckon i did the same with wheel bearings when I did my fork seal, just did the spinlde up well tight - reckon it then knackered the bearings - did it with a torque wrench when i replaced them the other week for my MOT, it didnt seem much more than hand tight

you got 10 days now for the free re-test ?

Yeah 10 days which doesnt include weekends! So, next wednesday or thursday? Bummer is, the MOT ran out sat, so no transport at the moment! So next year i will do it ten days before it runs out! Lesson learnt!

Ive got exhaust seal on the way which should come tomorrow, bought RTV red silicone instead of using holts fire gum as it wont go brittle and will flex with the system too! Gonna do the wheel bearings tonight if i get time, short of something long to knock them out and a pair of circlip pliers too so need to hunt around for something suitable!

I used a large flathead screwdriver to knock the bearings out, and a LARGE lump hammer.

yeah ive managed to 'borrow' a long enough flat headed screw driver from the builder we have in at the moment whos doing the bathroom! Just need some circlip pliers....

they have them at screwfix for a couple of quid - be carefull though mate, dont know wwhen you did yours last, but when i tried to get the circlip out, it snapped on me, then had a right pig getting the rest of it out, couldn't drill it as its hardened steel, ended up having to drive into the wheel itsself so that i could get behind the clip to lever it out

even if you do get it out with a screw driver its a V tight fit, and you'll need some circlip pliers to get them back in with !

yeah im well aware how much of a pig they are, i had a proper pair of pliers before so wasnt a problem, they are just at my mums 90 miles away. May just pick a pair up at halfords down the road, but wondering if the tips of my long nose pliers will do the job?

Was gonna do all of it tonight but nothing ive ordered has turned up today so i guess the postal strikes are having something to do with it? Guess im gonna have alot of fun working for them over christmas then, eh??

finally, finally, finally it got through today. took it in for retest monday and failed on the front brakes binding. That was due to me not fitting the bearings in fully, so the wheel was off centre and pressing the left hand side pistons of each caliper which couldnt retract any more, front brake was rather spongy which i though was down to me moving the calipers about.

A good clean of the pistons and regrease, plus a good wallop of the bearings sorted things out
