cant get to the limiter!
Hi guys
I recently bought a zxr400L and realized it has a speed limiter (wont go over 180kph). It doesnt have problem with reving up and reaches easily 180kph. So i suppose the limiter is in the speedo.
So I got the clocks out, but i cant open the speedo!
The article (very helpful till now) says The casing is held on by a metal ring which seems to be pressed together to seal the speedo
Where is that ring exactly?
Sorry for my bad english and i hope its not something too obvious....
Thanx in advance!

Re: cant get to the limiter!
im sure there is another easier way by putting a resistor inbetween two of the wires, ask a few people on here, may be easier than ripping youre speedo apart!!

Re: cant get to the limiter!
I suspect the ring you are looking for is the one one the other side of the speedo that the body of the speedo presses into it also hold the glass.
There are easier ways to remove the restriction

Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Re: cant get to the limiter!
thanx for the answers!
But still cant find it.
I ve been searchin the forum for a long time and it seems that its not meant to be opened, i m afraid i might damage it if i im not sure where it is.
By "easier ways" what do you mean cargo?
I found the "resistor mod", and seems easier. All i got to do is connect the 10kOhm resistor to the pink wire and then to ground right? ground = frame?
But still cant find it.
You mean in the front of the speedo? If there is a photo where this ring is visible pls someone post it.cargo wrote:I suspect the ring you are looking for is the one one the other side of the speedo that the body of the speedo presses into it also hold the glass.

Re: cant get to the limiter!
I can remember which wire it is that you need to put the resistor on.
However I think I have a little plug in box that does the same job...............I'd need to see a picture of the black connector that comes from your speedo to confirm if it would fit.
And you are right the speedo is not designed to be dismantled the ring is a press fit and it also hold the glass in place you would need to find the edge and prise it open with a blade or a flat screwdriver.

Back with fotos
One of the three wires is pink, and i found one same connector coming out of the CDI....i suppose this is the one refered in the "resistor mod" topic.
If anyone has done it with resistor pls let me know.
Cargo u got a pm.

Re: cant get to the limiter!
thanks a lot masterofinsanity for the help.
I prefer the resistor solution though, i am afraid i might break the speedo. I already placed it back on the bike.
Anyone tried to put the resistor?
Cargo i sent u a pm, in case u didn see it

Re: cant get to the limiter!
I've read you PM and will have a price for posting to you tomorrow or certainly by Wednesday. I will also check which wires you need to fit a resistor to. The plug and play de restrictor I have is the lazy mans solution funny it is the only one I have ever seen I've never seen one like it for sale anywhere

Thanx a lot cargo, and all of u guys!
