Well I Made It Though Summer But.....

Post by cameron »

On my way to college this morning, coming up to a junction I come to a stop when I hear squealing tyres behind me. Next thing I know I'm being sandwiched between two cars and rolling off my bike :smt013

Image

Got up off the floor in a blind rage and the guy that hit me turned out to be a guy I went to school with, he braked but the wheels just locked.
Carbs had flooded and was a bit of a b*tch to get going but luckily it was ridable (police seemed happy enough to let me ride it anyway)
Got to sort out something about insurance now, apparently because I hit the car in front it has to go through my insurance, don't really want to lose my no claims though tbh especially as it wasn't my fault, anyone else been in a similar situation.
Anyway damage isn't too bad, indicator fell out so just picked it up off the road and plugged it back in lol.
Fairings are a little damaged, will need a new nose cone and something broken near the number plate as it's crooked.
Frame seems straight, so do forks and wheels all seem fine.

If anyone has any H1 fairing's in my colours let me know, gonna need a new nose cone, exhaust hanger, screen, front hugger and the bit that holds the number plate on.

Um, not too sure tbh, don't the L and H model use different sub frames?

Looks like you had a lucky esacape there to me, including the bike.

Unfortunate as it may seem but if you hit the person in front cos someone rear ended you then yes it comes off your insurance. I guess thw logic that you should leave plenty of space in front of you just incase applies........

L and H subframes dont swap.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

How can it be your fault and your insurance that takes a hit for the damage to the red car in front ?

Just explain that to me

Didn't twat him as he's an alright bloke at the end of the day known him for years. And also I've been in the same position, albeit not with a bike but last year I killed my punto in the ice, same thing happened, slid and hit the car in front, so it's very easily done. And the roads are very greasy atm, had the rear spinning earlier coming out of a bend and I was basically bolt upright lol. But got the ball rolling anyway, was offered a £500 settlement straight up but was advised against it from people on another forum as they recon I could get a bit more out of it, probably right. Told the insurers that I've changed my mind and it's not road worthy now lol, they're gonna sort a hire bike out and get it inspected etc I think. It'll deffo be written off but hopefully I get a decent payout (it's rare and was in mint condition before, obviously). Then I'm probably gonna buy it back and fix it back up. Basically what I've been told is as it was still me that hit the car it has to go through my insurers, but the guy who's fault it was insurers actually pay for all the damage and I will keep my ncb. And god knows what hire bike they're gonna dump me with, really not looking forward to having to ride some cg125 or something lol, hopefully I'll get given a brand new 6r to play with lol, I can hope anyway.

What a giraffe!

With respect to the isurance, the way they see it is that SOMEONE has to be liable - so if the car in front of you wasn't at fault at all then you must be fully at fault. Stupid, yes, but you can kind-of see where they're coming from...

If they try lumping you with a 125 kick up a stink and point out the performace/horsepower of the ZXR! You should get a sit-up-and-beg style 600 like a Blandit.

Hope they sort it all out quickly, and at least you're ok as that could have gone much worse for you...

With Baz - I think the red mist would have twatted him 1st then said "sorry mate" later :smt002

Lucky to walk away - not even whiplash !

Being a front and rear sandwich have rake checked - headstock could easily be creased. Also renew front and rear wheel bearing and I would err on swingarm too - they all have impact shock/damage.

If you buy it back I can help with a can hanger and screen - if you kept the bit of cowl that's missing weld it back in , use Red cable ties when doing it.

Before assessor comes out go give it a polish - nothing wrong in doing that.

Although you are deemed as having caused damage to the front car the rear car is liable and rightly so his insurance pays all but your company will initially pay the fron car damage - your NCB is safe.

Good luck with your hire bike and keep us posted on how it's all going.

LIttle update, was going to carry on riding it and slowly fix it up, but there's a few underlying problems, ie carb wants propperly sorting as it keeps cutting out and now has a flat tyre. Bought a crm250 to get about on through winter, wanted another 2 stroke anyway. So will probably be making a bit of a project out of the zxr, I'll get it stripped to a frame and clean it all up and fix all the little problems. Also thinking of getting the frame sand blasted and powder coated (has some shiney finish on it atm but it's not a particually good job tbh.) So will keep me busy through winter and should have a good bike ready for summer biggrin

Will make a new thread when I get round to stripping it.

let me know if you have any problems with insurance; my mum was in exactly that same situation, middle vehicle. her insurance company played merry hell with her, even though the rear guy, in a Securicor van admitted full liability. Since her 70mpg diesel was totally written off (buckled chasis) they gave her a 30mpg petrol, then tried to say they weren't responsible for the extra fuel cost, cheeky buggars. Also make sure you can buy something with what they offer you. The only thing my mum could buy with the money was 2 years older, and 50% more miles! took ages to beat some sense into the insurance people. you could always fighter it... the electrics are all under the tank. It would be erm interesting!
I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).
