Head Bolts L1
Anyone know if the headbolts are stretch bolts? Just had the head skimmed and im a little concerned about the bolts being the wrong size and wondered if they stretch over time?

all metal will stretch over time, even more so with the heat/cool down cycles.
worried? get some new ones

Re: Head Bolts L1
Good question......................
Generally to one extent or another all bolts are stretch bolts. Only when a bolt has been tightened beyond it's correct torque will it be stretched permanantly.
It is the correct torque that applies the correct degree of stretch that keeps the bolt tight.
If a bolt has been correctly torqued then it should be ok to reuse. Eventually of course its worth replacing the likes of a head bolt if it's been reused a few times
If you have any doubts then for a head bolt replace it..............I think the manual gives bolt lengths so you could measure them and check
I do hope this is a positive enough reply for you

Did you try Cradley cos I'd bet they will have them in stock
And of course I apoligise it's not the manual where you will find bolt lengths but the microfiche...............sorry.
Carefull study of the microfiche reveals something interesting about cylinder head bolts which you might just want to take notice of
Think positive

You have two longer ones at 139mm: #92150-1085
and eight shorter ones at 133mm: #92150-1084
All still available from Kawasaki
Cant wait for your "My engine went BANG!" thread

Re: Head Bolts L1
Ah makes sense. When i pulled them out i didn't even realise they were different lengths. I have been told I should get away with using the original bolts - anyone dissagree? Probably not going to start putting her back together until next week so I have a little time if I need to get new ones. I was ultimately worried about running out of thread in the block but it has only been skimmed by fractions of a mm. Should be enough room (i think)
