Hi, glad to hear your getting closer! Pitting and scratching is a sign that the cam is on the way out but shouldnt be ticking too bad with just that alone (ticking usually gets louder as cam profile flattens out)
Have you looked at the specific rockers for the valves where the cams are damaged? These usually wear before the cams (just will give you a better indication of whats definately making the noise).
But coming to replacing them, if you need to put new rockers on the inlet side you will either have to take the head off or drop the engine as you cant access the plug to undo the rocker bar. (exhaust side is ok access though). Cams you can buy single but are expensive (200 new!!). try and get a used one in good nick, a few going at the minute.
