CUTS OUT WHEN IT DECELERATES

The bike's been running fine, but recently, if I'm on a run, it cuts out when I decelerate, coming to lights or a roundabout etc. If I try to start it immediately it's dead, but if I switch the ignition off and back on again it fires! Thought it might be the regulator, but then the battery would be too flat to fire the bike again wouldn't it? Help much appreciated! Cheers
