tacho meter
hello! can you replace the tacho meter whith out having to change the rest of the dials? ie: keep the same milage it has now?

yep, disconnect from wiring, unbolt from the back, take out, install new, re bolt re-connect.

Following on from this thought - this made me think. I plan to change my Jap clocks for a set of UK ones - is it possible to wind the mileage forward to read the correct mileage for the bike, before I put them on?
I ask because my bike has a fair few miles, so it's more than likely that any UK clocks I pick up will be lower mileage, than my hefty 52,000 Kilometers.
Correction, 54,263 Ks. 33720 miles!

you can wind it round yes, i did it to mine when i swapped for uk clocks, they had 30k on them and wound them back. It takes a long time tho, but i just left it connected up to an electric motor over night. Took a few days too.

33,000 isnt high! Mine had somthing like 45,000 on it when i sold it. My 750 is about to turn 40,000 and all

What about digital dials? Can you get them? I'm glad this question has been asked, I'm sticking UK clocks in mine and was thinking about this!

I was looking at a digi dash before, and I might yet, but I think I will still buy a set of UK clocks for the meantime, as them buggers ain't cheap...

if you put UK model clocks/speedo into a Jap import ZXR400 you will have issues to contend with......like a 10K rev limit

I remember hearing something about UK CDI units before (Gold label?) - but I thought that was simply to do with raising the rev limit to 14,9.
So if you change the clocks for UK clocks, you have to change to a UK CDI or suffer limitation to 10K revs?

If you fit UK clocks then you either need to change the CDI.........................or extract the little ciruit board from the old import clocks and leave it plugged into the loom. Thats actually waht I did on one of my race bikes. Because the speedo is gone the CDI never gets the message that you doing 110mph..................and because the little circuit board is still plugged in the cdi thinks the orginal speedo is still there and so does not go into default 10K rev limit mode.
I made a little container for the ciruit board from a plastic container and sealed the end with Araldite
easy really
There are other ways to do it but when I did this I was very new to ZXRs and it worked so I left it that way still works now 9 years later and I've never had to touch it since

Ok, that's not a problem, I was planning on picking up a UK CDI for the rev limit anyway, so I don't think I'll have to worry.
Which label is UK spec, someone remind me?

Mine is Gold, and I know mine to be Jap spec, as it's a Grey bike.
