In my youth I rode Kawasaki KH250s...............very lovely 3 cylinder two strokes...................it was once in a magazine that those of us who choose to ride 3 cylinder Kawasakis only had 3 brain cells to match the cylinders on our bikes...............this became a long running joke for many of my mates.
Funny how a joke now seems to have become a reality except now it's ZXR400 owners with limited brain cells

ok so i should have checked my tyre pressure yes im a nob i thought it was ok didn't think of the obvious.i can see where your coming from mate but chill out??? your a very knowledgeable person when it comes to these bikes as i can see and do appreciate it but not everyone is you.

if so, 1st up i never said i would ride the bike without the rear brake i said 'was it legal to do so', 2nd i also stated that i was in the process of buying a replacement so that i wouldn't be in a situation where i had no rear brake.
it still puzzles me though cargo, you know your stuff, i assume through years of hard work and patient learning...not everyone is there yet 'mate'.
also you keep banging on about people posting stupid questions, then you seem to act like it is somehow below your 'mighty status' to offer positive advice, its just a snide comment here, or a flippant remark there.
i have two pieces of prose that i think you might want to peruse at your leisure:-
1) if you have nothing constructive to say, dont say anything at all.
2) Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt.
you are really knowledgeable, but acting like you often do makes me question your usefullness everytime your name pops up in a thread.

if you look carefully you'll see that my name does not pop up in threads anymore unless someone mentions me I dont answer questions anymore...there are a number of reasons for that...........sometimes people dont get the answer they want. Others fail to tell us the full story regarding their problem.......like the guys who have running issues but fail to mention they've had the carbs off for a clean. Or of course those who fail to grasp that Kawasaki dealers sell kawasaki parts.
Then we come to those who dont like getting the truth of the matter and take it badly
Your question regarding the legality of riding your bike without a rear brake is completely pointless unless you planned to ride without it. Why ask that question unless you intend to ride without it.....................I stand by what I said.
Yes it is by experience and learning that I "know my stuff" however it is also because I apply a little common sense.............something which is seriously lacking in many of this forums users

it really was "just" a question, given that i had the engine on the floor, both brakes dissasembled on my work bench, front brake lines in the bin, forks waiting to be dismantled, bodywork hanging from the foor of my garage, front and rear tyres lying in the corner and the front master cylinder in my hand i wasnt in any way going to be riding my bike.cargo wrote:Your question regarding the legality of riding your bike without a rear brake is completely pointless unless you planned to ride without it. there have been a few "scooter" rear brakes for sale as they are lightweight, but i was wondering to myself if something designed for 10bhp will cope with 6x that...and thats when i wondered if a rear was even needed/legal. and as i already pointed out twice i noted that i was in the process of buying a replacement, because i wasnt going to ride with no rear brake.

There is a reason for a rear brake, you do an emergency stop with no rear and you're gonna hit the floor.common sense really lol

Ever tried doing a hill start without a rear brake? What if you hit diesel or gravel and need to slow down? They teach you to use the rear brake on your bike test, so that should say it all, really! Technically, you CAN ride it without the rear brake, but it's a disaster waiting to happen...

ok, at the point of reitterating myself, again...i was never going to ride without a rear brake.
there are some people who have been selling scooter rear brake conversions, i started wondering to myself if that would even do anything as its designed for something with 1/6th of the power, so i wondered if you needed a rear brake at all (as i was thinking that fitting a scooter rear brake wont really be able to cope with the increased bhp), or whether it was a legal requirement...im a scientist, i ask questions, stupid questions sometimes, but still its not illegal to ask stupid questions.
