Think the time has come

Post by tink »

I had my fork seals fail on me last year so got them replaced with new ones and was happy but now they have failed again and don't wanna be paying out for them to be done again and there seems to be no cheap ones about that the seals haven't gone on so thinking out selling the bike with the seals as they are and getting a newer bike like a fireblade

Selling bike because fork seals have gone.

Drastic, much? Have you figured out why they're leaking? Pitted stanchions, shitty seals, etc?

Also, if it's just the seals, that's a maximum of one hour labour at any decent garage if you take the forks off and take them in...

Fair enough, I'm in the same position myself. Only one of the stanchions is pitted, buying a new stanchion seems to be about £100.

Considering most pairs of forks go for about that much on eBay, wondering if forks off the later L model 750s will fit the J without a problem. Fiches suggest that's the case, but want to make bloody sure before I splurge on a pair of forks.

Get 2nd hand set and get them rebuilt.least with the zxr you know what you got. Buying another bike especially uf it turns out to be a nail could just end up costing you more.

I very much doubt they would rechrome the stanchions for that price. If they're badly pitted, just a polish (which is advertised) surely isn't going to solve it?

But yeh, I bought my current ZXR under the belief that it would be ready to ride considering it came with a 12 month MOT, but no, brake piston seals were blown, brake pistons badly corroded, one of the fork seals leaking. No idea how it passed an MOT.

I tried to check for forks, bounced them up and down a couple of times, but they only started leaking once I actually rode it (no test ride). And can't exactly take the calipers off when viewing a bike. So yeh, don't expect the new bike to not cost you any money, it definitely will in some way shape or form :P

The fork seals might of been ok for the mot but started leaking once you started to ride it. This happened on my zx7r. They were fine while moving it around my garage but they started leaking on the way to the mot (unknown to me or i wouldnt of ridden it).

No they probably wont chrome but they do polish. Check them out. Might be worth a call if you just get a decent set of forks with good chrome

I wanted to see if i could get my 7r o es gold plated. I found somwhere willing to do it but it would cost alot and in my eyes it isnt worth doing to a bike like that. Maybe on a showbike though.
