ZX400G Help

Post by dunkymunky »

Hi guys

I'm new here and am seeking to tap in to your extensive knowledge.

I'm looking at getting my first bike, and a Jap import ZX400g (1998) is up for sale that I'm interested in. Only thing that worries me is that, being a Jap import, parts will be difficult to get hold of. I know it needs a new battery and exhaust immediately, so are these easily available and if so, what should I expect to pay?

Here's a pic of it....

Thanks for any help you could offer

Sure you're on the right forum? ;)

Also, are you sure its not 1988...although imported / registered in 1998? This bike was the precursor to the ZXR400 which started in 1989 (i think).

Either way, this is a 25 odd year old, import only bike so yes your're right, parts are going to be difficult to get in all forms.

Worth somewhere about the £600 mark depending on mileage / history given it needs a new exhaust and battery? It might be okay if youre looking for something cheap to wield your spanner at.

sorry - that was a typo - it is a 1988 bike. Thanks for your help so far, I'm pretty handy with a spanner so that doesn't bother me, just the fact that its only got 1 month MOT and I know it needs new battery, fork seal and exhaust, but dont want to buy it and then find the parts can't be found easily

well, I've only just gone and bought it :) should pick it up sometime this week. Now I just need to hunt down a battery and fork seals (and instructions on how to change them)
