Hi all,
stripped both my zxr's so I can put my new engine in my old frame anyway..
I've taken the loom out and it's been wrapped in shitty plastic tubing so I'm wondering what do you guys use to tidy up a wiring loom before rebuilding a zxr
While I'm here, any tips for building a zxr400 H, loom first then put the engine In? What's your process you take to building up a new ZXR400.
Need my ZXR all up built up and running perfectly by July as I'm meant to ride this to Spain for 12 day trip (3,000 miles)
Cheers

frame
shock and swingarm
undertray
rear brakes and rear wheel
front forks and headstock
engine
ancillary parts (footrests etc)
carbs
electrics
tank and exterior plastics
roughly like that, normally easier to get the engine in and then thread the electrics into their necessary places, than to be holding wires out of the way whilst hoisting in the lump.

Re: tidy up wiring loom?
Got my frame with the suspension and forks on it so I guess just put it on the paddock stand out the engine in then the rest of the stuff.
What about my loom what should I do to tidy that up? Not keen on using electrical tape but I will if nothing else is suggested.
Cheers, James

Re: tidy up wiring loom?
For the loom, lay it out. Get some wd40 and cloth and give it a good clean up.
Then get some contact cleaner and spray the plugs &a contacts etc If you have one, get a terminal tool and take the plugs off, clean the corrosion off the the spades etc
Then when your done get some self amalgamating tape, cloth type I find is best.
Finally use some Vaseline when you plug the connectors together, keeps them corrosion free

Re: tidy up wiring loom?
Great stuff, thanks guys!
Just to be sure even though it's the name of the stuff, this will be good for the loom?

And while I've got the bike as a rolling chassis what is worth replacing before I put the engine in like coolant hoses? Mine crack/kreak when you squeeze them so was thinking of getting some samco ones but it annoys me how L model hoses are £50 while H model ones are £85

Re: tidy up wiring loom?
Well since my last post, I've dropped the engine out of one frame and put it in my other frame. My back is killing me but at least I'm getting there. Taking the loom home tonight to give it some tlc.
I'd like to have her running by tomorrow night but we all know how these types of things plan out
Is there anyone local to Bristol who'd be up for teaching a young'un how to check your valve clearances? I've got Mori Man's guide, the workshop manual and a little chart for measuring all printed off. Just would benefit from having some expert advice on hand

Re: tidy up wiring loom?
So yesterday was a long night..
Got the engine all bolted in, sat down to rest my back.. and there's a crack in the frame.
Out the donor engine goes and back into its original frame. Looks like I'll be scrapping this frame and applying for the V5 for this other frame and paying for a MOT etc.
Had I noticed the crack I could have saved myself 2 weekends worth of work.
Fucking bikes, i'm meant to ride the giraffe to Spain in 6 fucking weeks..
Send help!
