wont rev.
Well, I got the carbs back on this morning, seems to be running on 4 cylinders now, (cylinders 1 & 4 take a while to heat the exhaust unlike 3 & 4 tho). anyway, it revs ok & pretty clean up to about 8 thou then thats it, it,ll strain & struggle to get any more when blipping the throttle.
Have I not cleaned the carbs well enough or could it be plugs (standing three yrs) or could it be the vfr750 fuel pump thats been retro fitted!
Theres also a big hole in the manifold & the silencer has been dropped on literally. could that poss stop it revving out. Is it totally shagged, am I flogging a dead horse, does my boxer fart more than the missus,
answers on a postcard please.......

Grrr, bit annoying now. had the carbs back off, cleaned & put them back on again, its made no difference. All exhausts get hot especially the middle two but it still wont rev past 8 thou & its rough sounding up to there. Getting a spark on all cylinders & petrol doesnt seem a problem. I now think poss there might be a valve clearence problem or maybe coil breaking down or the missus putting a spell on me. I,ve a compression tester but it dont go down to the tiny size our plugs are. Trying to source an 10mm adapter locally so I can get it checked today. Theres an engine on ebay which also finishes today, I may have a bid on that if its not too dear near the end. Bloomin bikes eh!!, damm & blast.
rev counters fine for now, I cleaned up the contacts, wiggled & prodded etc etc. giving plenty of volts too across the battery.
feck, its over a hundred quid now so thats me out of the bidding for the engine.

Sounds like it might be the coils if the middle two arent getting as warm as the outer two. Check the little spade clips that connect tot eh coils arent corroded, or that the leads arent breaking down. I had this problem where one cylinder wouldnt fire up on my XJR400, i went a good year and a half thing it was valve guide seal just to find one day there was a fat blue spark jumping from the HT lead to the frame. A year and a fucking half of starting problems, if i knew it was as simple as that id have sorted it right away! Of which i did in due course once i knew what the problem was

Good call tho, I,ve asked jmez fr his coils & leads off the bike he,s breaking but at the min I,ll have a root around that area,
cheers.
If I cant find anything obvious at the mo, I,ll run the engine, rev it & pull the leads off one by one with a spare plug in the end. That might show up a dodgy or weak spark.
