chkchkchkchkc vroooom!!! :D

Post by RedexRobB »

Come home for the wekend as it was my birthday on saturday, not much to do at home so been bored mindless. So, today i got out in the shed and had a look at the ZXR 'what needs doing?'.

Ok, today i will fit the new handle bar which ive had for over a year, so did that and cut the old one in half, yes, once again it was a solid lump of aluminium (remember the other thread?), pics to follow :smt003

Hmm, didnt take long to do, still bored. Ok kets get it started, last time it ran was september 2005 a week before i left for uni, so over 18 months ago! Was getting worried about leaving so long incase it wouldnt turn or something silly so decided to put my mind at rest.

Took all the panels off, they were just sat there unattatched so no difficult task. Charged the battery for about an hour, while that charged i cut the botton off a scottoiler bottle and squeezed the tapered nozzle into the fuel pipe and filled it with the fuel i drained out the ZXR the last time it ran, so thats practically 18 month old fuel. Had a small drama trying to find the key, i knew id put it in a jar with some other keys but where the f*** it was i didnt know, found it in the end and was quite relieved! After an hour tried to start, nothing :smt012 flattend the battery, but what it had done was drink alot of the fuel i put in the bottle so the carbs were just filling up as was the fuel pump. Put it on charge for half hour and tried again, still nothing, didnt even sound like it was going to start :smt009

Stuck bettery on charge for another hour and went out for a bit to help my mum get rid of some crap at the tip, came back and had another go. Still nothing, just as the battery was starting to loose its life its coughed and spluttered 'oh yessss!' and stopped 'toad'. Gave another push of the button with a bit of choke, "VVVVVVVVVRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" ohhh better turn the choke down! "vrmmmmmmmm". sat and let it idle for a few minutes while it sorted itself out cos every time i gave the throttle a bit of a twist it would almost die.

I got some video of it which i will try and upload by the end of the week, but the ASC can i got for it about a year ago sounds great! first time ive heard it.

My main target for this summer is to paint it, fingers crossed it will happen this year, im pretty determined now cos it keeps getting put back cos of money and now i got the bike going its given me some new inspiration to get it done. Also need to make up a bracket for the exhaust, tried to finish off the one i made but went to bend it after heating it up and it basically tuned into wheatabix and snapped :smt011 So might try and custom fit a bracket from another bike.

guess it wasn't seized then robB?? personally i would have attempted to turn it over without the coils connected to make sure it still turns, if you can do it by hand even better!

Just been riding up and down the garden path on it :D

I didnt think it would be siezed but something in my head kept saying it was possible, its been sat under 2 bed sheets in the shed since it last ran, so not like its been out in the elemets or anything :)

What i will do is when it gets layed up for the winter is ill drop some oil down the barrels just to make sure. Ill definately have it out this summer painted or unpainted, its only an extra £30 to have it put on with the ZX7 :smt001

yeah, very difficult to get it right, its all or nothing with the choke which i believe is a common thing with kwaks. Even my 7R does it, but not as bad as the 400 was today.

LOL i think full choke on my ZXR was around 6000rpm?

Then again, percentage of the rev range-wise - that's probably less than most bikes!

Best use of Redexx is down the barrels after a long lay-up! :smt002 It's perfect for that job, and I'm sure you've got some lay around! :smt003
