and so it does, so RobB do you think removing the tab will have de-restricted the bike as the tab wont send the signal to the cdi?

Removing the tab will derestrict it, yeah. Its just the rest of the electronics in the speedo that tell the CDI its there cos if you unplug it, the CDI will know, so it needs the rest of the electronics in there to say its still connected. But im starting to wonder if the 10k rev limit that pops up from people every now and then is just an unplugged clock so the CDI kicks in with a 10K rev limit, and thats probably why a UK CDI will work in terms of derestricting. Like i said, i doubt derestricting is as easy as just unplugging the clock.

But a derestrictor box is just a bunch of electronics to say that theres something is there so the 10k rev limit doesnt kick in. I did try to take a derestrictor box apart once but it was immersed in black sealant which sets hard so you couldnt get to anything let alone see what is was made up of. When i finish uni, im gonna take a proper look at the speedo i took apart see if i can make some sense of the circuit thats in there. Cos it could just be a replica of whats in the back of the clock minus the tag.

If you look at this pic of mine:
http://w1.bikepics.com/pics/2006/06/06/ ... 9-full.jpg

you can see that litle circuit board attatched to the side, all a derestrictor is, is a box that looks like that circuit board to the CDI, and fools it into thinking the clock is still connected, hence derestricting your bike.

I made my own, just put the circuit board in a little hobby box from Maplin then sealed it all up (but I was fitting a UK MPH clock at the time too, so needed the circuit still the be in place)
