Thats a good question.

I've owned a number of brand new bikes over the years and have always noticed that the orginal chain and sprockets last much much longer than any after market ones I've bought.

But I've never heard of anyone buying a genuine orginal chain and sprockets yet they seem to last the longest ???

For racing I've used Regina, Triple S and Afam chains
Afam, Talon and Renthal sprockets.

Never got any of them to give me free ones :smt005

I think people go for aftermarket probably to save weight, and arent standard parts more expensive than after market?
