My Jacket Smells Like A Tramps Tena Lady Pad!!!

Post by Jamz »

I've had my Spyke kangaroo skin 2 piece for 2 or 3 years now, and thanks to lots of daft riding, the jacket has seen 365,441 litres of sweat, and about the same in filthy rainwater and stuff.

A few weeks ago it started to stink, and make me stink.

I've been keeping it under control until now with Febreeze anti-bacterial spray stuff, but hadn't used it for about 6 months.

Now, my problem is that I ride every single day, so some treatment that means my jacket spends 2 months drying out is out of the question! I do have a spare textile jacket, but I'd prefer not to have to resort to that.

Is there any quick and effective way to do it - or will i have to bite the bullet and hand wash the fkr.

And how do I hand wash the fkr.

I'm not too experienced at girly cleaning stuff...

Cant you take it to a place that specualises in leather to get it cleaned, either that or buy a load of them cheap air fresheners an stick em to the inside of the jaket.

Ive got that with my gloves, after a downpour and they have dried out they stink like anything. A few rides later and they have aired out they are ok.

I think a good clean and a good covering in Nikwax should clean your jacket up nicely. Also the Nikwax will waterproof it so it shouldnt soak through again. I do my jacket at least once a year, wipe it over with a damp cloth and then Nikwax it, then once the wax has dried in i give it another coat for good measure. Jacket looks completely different afterwards and it smells like leather again. I also use my hands to rub the wax in, apparently it penetrates better that way. As for the inside i think a dry cleaners or as suggested a leather specialist who can do the whole lot for you.

It's only the lining that's stinking a bit - I use that proper bike stuff in the white pots for the outside and it is pretty damn good!

Someone on http://www.visordown.com suggested a place in Coventry:

http://www.scrubbersleathers.co.uk

Seems like a good place - but £28 just for a jacket seems a bit harsh to me...

I thought £28 was quite good, try and find some other places that do it and compare prices, only way your gonna know if your being mugged or not.

I might go and check at the local Morrisons dry cleaners.

It's only the lining that I need doing, really - the outside I'm not too fussed about!

I'll just have to find out for sure if their dry cleaning process will do any damage to kangaroo skin!

I'd go for Nik Wax or Autoglym leather cleaner. I got autoglym buy one get one free from halfords when I bought some degreaser spray.

Oh the fun I had with that:
Autoglym car cleaning products BOGOF

I bought autoglym motorcycle degreaser and leather cleaner, and they weren't gonna do the BOGOF deal until I started piping up about them being sexist and anti-bikers and racist and then they did my BOGOF deal.

I only went in for a can of WD40.

that it does rob!

the heat from yer hadn or pinky actually softens the wax more, so its absorbed better!

a leather repair bloke told that, and he also said that waxoyl is a great water repellent, i know i know, its used for rust proofing cars and the like, but what better way to proof yer leathers with anti rust stuff? 17years on and hes had no trouble.

be sure to use yer hand and rub in thin amounts otherwise it leaves white marks.

snd em off to Scrubbers leathers. I know several people who have sent stuff to them and they cant recommend them highly enough!

I dropped a set of leathers off last week for a clean, recolour from an off, and some minor fixing. They couldnt be more helpful! Just had a text today to say the gear is ready to be picked up.... cant wait! :smt003 :smt004
