MOTO GP

Post by boldaholic »

I don't usually like to moan about days out because you have to make the most of them but i have to say my first experience of a moto g.p race day was below expectations. Especially as i had been looking forward to it for so long.

As you probably know the weekend was fairly wet and rossi fell off right infront of me which was made my accident last week seem more than bareable. even in the rain we decided to bike from Lincoln each day but the generator was (still is) naffed so i'd basically been draining the battery for 3 days and when i turned up on sunday morning the alarm went off because it was below a certain voltage. it immobilised the bloody engine too. it went off again and again and again.

its a good job we set off at half 5 because me and my mate spent an hour and a half messing around in the car park trying to stop the bugger. In the end we put disk locks on both wheels and left the ignition on all day to stop it sounding just so we could see the race which i have seen reviewed in a few places as "worst race of the season". If i wanted to see racers following each other i'd of watched hamilton in the bore-me-ula one!!!

Eventually When i got back the bike was still there with a little battery power but the immobiliser had cut the fuel line and starter motor so we couldn’t even bump start it!

Me and my mate had gone on bikes and met two mates who had gone in a car (with jump cables in the boot). The suggestion was that we should go grab them, so the car driver and me as pillion jumped on my mates bike and set off for the car parking! the marshalls wouldnt let us through to the car park and wouldnt let us turn round and go back to the bike park. They led us out the park!!!
my monkey of a mates idea was that it would be fine and we would just ride round to the entrance they went in and find the car, before we realised that all the entrances were now exits we were on a one way stream heading for derby?!?!

After and hour of riding round, going against the stream of bikes blagging marshals nearly running down some of the guys tryng to stop us getting back we made it back to the bike park and my mates gixer was incredable close to overheating by this point!

Back at the bike park i pushed the bike bout quater /half a mile so i was near the exit and parked up. I rang the aa for some of thier roadside recovery and she said it would be 6.45 (the time was half 5 by now!). My mates went home and said i'd be fine waiting on my own :smt013

at 7.55 i had a phone call to say that the engineer was held up in traffic and would be there at half 7. So at 8 o clock when the engineer turned up i was bored, cold, fed up and tired!! (some kind couple camping had seen me waiting and bought over some food, drink and a cup of tea which cheered me up no end so if you know them then say a massive thankyou for me :smt003 )
the worst thing about the wait was that i had to stay with the bike to stop the alarm!! i couldn't even wonder about. I did get to see all the bikes leave which was cool, saw some zxr's too!!!!

By 9.30 the bike had been taken to the aa's on site area/office (traffic??? they were onsite all day!). After they finished their tea and hob nobs they strapped a car battery to the back and ran the two in parallel just so i could get home!! (top marks for initiative!) but they screwed up the datatool to turn it off so i need a new alarm and the generator fixing :O all that ontop of a £385 car service and mot!!!! plus both taxes is due this month! i give up!

On the way there the cable for my speedo had gone too so it was a great weekend! lol.
I'll definately be there next year though (poss with an rac card! haha)

About the 30th bike there and almost definately the last to leave (except for campers), Thats Hardcore!! lol

p.s does anyone know where i can get replacement fairing in my colours? numbers for breakers etc? ta

sounds like you had a good one! should have gone last year, i camped for 4 days was 30+ everyday and the raceing was excerlent :smt007

this is the reason i dont bother with alarms! i've had the same problem before so just ened up ripping it out and lobing the foker in the bin. Just use a ebay one now one wire off the batry and shuts the hole thing up (would still take 30 seconds or so to do so hoppfully some one would notice or just scare them off to start with!).

Still dont let this put you off next time head out of the uk long distance trips are grate fun, better weather, and genraly not that much more expensive!

The Manx GP is held on the same course as the TT races
It is a normal public road open for anyone to use

Normally the mountain section is one way for a while after racing.
At the TT this year it was one way over the mountain for two weeks.

the same may appliy to the Manx GP fortnight.............. I'll find out
