STARTING PROBLEMS

Post by superman »

ok i have a slight problem. went to start the bike this mornin pressed the contact button an NOTHING!! :smt011 its not turnin over at all it gave a little bip of a turn afew times an that was that. so... i took the seat off hooked the charger up (even thoe i charged the battery full afew days back an the alarm was workin) an it turned over a couple of times and started. so i thought great turned the bike off went to try an start it again an nothin. the only think i noticed when i hit the contact button one of the boxes under the seat buzzed so they must be workin im thinkin.......
Anyway does any of you gentlemen (or ladies) know what the problem might be?

could be a hole load of things, first thing id do is start the bike then stick a MultiMetter on the batry (on the +/-), rev it alittle and see what the Voltage across the to terminals is

If its anymore than about 16v then your regulator is gone.

Multimeter's can be had from any Maplins store for £10.

Is it going buzz or *click? Buzz suggests something other than a flat battery ..

you said if you stuck the charger on it would start? with the multimeter you can also check to see if the bat is holing 12v's or not, always a good place to start before moving onto things like starter solenoids ect

No i aint bumped it i tried about a month ago when i run the battery low hot start thing i guess but i couldnt get the bike to bump it wouldnt turn wierd but still.....

if the bat were flat it would try to turn you know that sound wom woooom wooooooom no none of that. even hooked up to the charger just one of the boxes under the seat buzz, its so annoyin. i hope it is a flat bat but i highly think not.

if the batry hasent got the power to even get the starter to "Click" then it will make a buzzing sound

Do what i said with the MultiMeter then move on from there

AH looked at it last night an i think its something to do with the button itself as opposed to anything else. basically i looked at it yesterday battery fine so i push the button an it buzzez again then i push the button hard an it starts now its not so bad???????????
Is it usual for the starter buttons to break or become cloged up?

they do get corroded inside so may be worth taking the switchgear off and cleaning it up inside.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

yes they do but if your getting a buz then your getting a conection, again a multimeter would prove this by checking that its getting 12v's and that its returning 12v's
