New Engine Fitted but doesnt start !!!!!!!!!!!

hi, iv fitted a new engine to my mates bike, but it doesnt start. the starter works and its nearly ticking over, but somethings stopping it?? any one know what it might be???? any help would be great, thanks

best to start simple, Are you getting a spark? fuel?

You have probably put the HT leads in the wrong order.

yer im getting a spark on every lead, yer the HT leads are in the right order, does it make any difference that its a H model engine in an L model bike. cheers!

Was the engine running before you fitted it?

If you are getting a spark, in the right order then it must be fuel (or theres some electrical fault)


are lights ect working? getting a good earth?

im positive the fuels working, and im getting lights, horn ect, could it maby the the spark plugs are shitty???

cant you use the plugs from the old engine?
Have you tried to blip the trottle while cranking?

i thought you had to change the cdi and loom to suit? ie h model cdi and loom for h model engine and l model cdi and loom for l model engine?

You don't have to swap the cdi unit over. I recently replaced my knachered L engine with an H one and the loom works fine with it.

But it took me forever to get the thing fired up and i almost lost hope and began to think the new engine was a dud. I flattened the battery 4 times trying to start it but it turned out that the carbs were bone dry and took all the cranking for the fuel pump to start pumping new fuel around and fill them back up. On the 5th go when the battery almost ran out of juice it sprang into life. Maybe you are in a smiliar position

like i said IF your getting a spark at the plugs AND your getting fuel (not just to the carbs but into the cylindas as well) then theres no reason for the bike not to start

finally fixed the problem, all we had to do was clean the spark plugs. once we had done that it started first time.the only thing i found that was different was a little nipple just under the carbsthat isnt there there on the H model but is on the L model. Thanks ALOT for all the help !!!!!!!!!! CHEERS!
