and remember the old carbed models got its reputation for being over the top when it comes to its power delivery, so there actually very aggressive bikes for the age they are,

Re: i forgot how aggresive and f-ing cool a late 90's R1 looked
fact that they sell for more than that says other wise...weather its worth it or its what poeple are willing to pay proves it!
the old carb model is attualy less powerfull than the new ones but due to the torque it makes and the short gears insted of the drawn out power killing ones of the newer bikes its ment to be a right brute!
next year i think i'll get one, but i'll prob be packing in road bikes all togeather and just getting a track/race bike

I always wanted a '98 R1 and still do!
Blue/White please, Sir.
And as it's a '98 the reg will probably start with an R, too!

Re: i forgot how aggresive and f-ing cool a late 90's R1 looked
I sold my '99 R1 in march for 2650, full history, full yoshi system, 28k miles, it was perfect, i stripped down the motor and had done the valve clearances and slapped on a new headgasket while i was at it even although it didn't really need it. The bottom end had done 12k less, due to second gear going pop at 12k and a score on the casing was found internally so they put new piston rings and a new bottom casing on it from the previous owner.

I wish i had kept hold of it, i owned it for 3 years and it really was perfect., the build quility is superior to kawasakis unfortunately, they just dont have the same character as the kwaks.
I sold it to get the zx10, i don't regret it, but i should of kept both, although 4 bikes in the garage would be pushing it!
