Performance of a ZXR?

Last time I was at Donnington Park, I was trying to work out what the gaggle of 2-stroke bikes were that were leading the race in the 400 Open.

It didn't take long before I realised they were actually -ing 125's!!!

I'm sure the 400's and 250's whupped their ass on the other side of the circuit, but it kind of gives you an idea of how even on the track horsepower doesn't really mean toad when it comes to really having to ride challenging twisties.

also i have gone and watched british 125 championships and the motogp here in britain, and those 125's sure can fly round them bends,

riding like an butt on public roads isn't my thing. I ride fairly quickly but safely and smoothly. I might go round a corner quicker on the 400 than on a bigger bike, but that doesn't mean I'm more dangerous, it just means I have more control than I would if I was trying to wrestle a big litre bike round the same bend in permanent fear of highsiding into a tree.

what really isn't my thing is riding in a straight line at 150mph for long periods of time. Or riding at 130mph in the rain. Or riding into the back of peoples cars. All things I'd put into the category of "riding like an butt" and not "thrilling"

Come to think of it Rob, why do you only have a 636 - bit underpowered isn't it? Surely some sort of drag bike would be more your thing.

When I first had a Yamaha TZR125, I used to think that thing was as rapid as hell.

When I took the 500cc bike out for lessons I thought that was insane.

When I passed and too the 400 out for the first time it scared the living daylights out of me!

When I first rode a 750cc bike it felt like my arms were going to be pulled out of their sockets every time I opened the throttle!

Now I find myself with time do write a shopping list and do some knitting whilst accelerating as fast as the bike will go.

I don't think you need a bigger, faster bike to enjoy it and get a thrill. I think you get used to ANYTHING, and always want more.

A bike is a bike, and whatever size it is you should be able to enjoy it - it's just when your ego kicks in that a Nova has overtaken you that you start buying bigger.

shame, cmon jamz even i thought even you got it!, look to get ya thrills on a zxr400 by guys stating they go in fast round bends, well f**k me you hit a bit of deisel, then your wish you would of been going slower, i dont really care if its 125 or a 1000, but cuz guys keep giving the zxr400 its only way to have fun is to go fast round bends, thats just fcuked up keep that to the track if you think your the next rossi,

also ive been lucky enough to ridden alot of bikes from 125 to 1100, and yeah f**k it, it feels friggen nice to scares the living toad outta yaself on a superbike,

if fast road twisties arnt your thing then there is no reason to own and ride a sportsbike on the road. There are hundreds of other bikes that would fulfill every area of road riding you need and still put a grin on your face. The whole notion of keeping it on the track is fine as long as you understand that we're not going to, for most of us the attraction to riding a bike attracts a personality type that isnt going to really obey speedlimits, isnt really going to think about the what ifs and doesnt want some other fucker pushing em into our face. we're well aware of the dangers and no i dont give a f*** 90% of the time.
