should i lower my self to a H?

Post by rene »

well after nearly 12months of looking for a cheap L model to do a engine conversion on i just dont think im going to find one :( so what do poeple think of the H? i've never attualy riden one, so the main question is what's the chassis like comapired to the L?

i'll probaly only be changing the front end (proably for the 636 front end) and the engine (as the engines can go bettween the L and the H i take it the mounting points are the same?) then pipe work ect ect

so what do you think? carry on waiting for a L to come up or just get a H??

'Lower' is the wrong word.

IMHO the chassis is better, the riding position is more in than on and the overall comfort is higher.

Altho you find more variance between bikes than models, you may also notice the different gearing and slightly more linear power delivery.

Personally, for the road, I'd stick with L. Simply because of parts availability and the amount of after market support/addons available compared to H.

Last word on the thread: Curb your urges, save your money, buy a decent bike.

I've been there, done that. There is no such thing as a 'cheap' bike. Only one that soaks up hundreds of hours of your time, is never 'just right', always has something thats worn out or needs replacing, costs far more in the long term than a decent one and is ultimately only worth something to you.

surly tho if your replaceing alot of the parts with newer stuff youd want them to be shaby so your not wasting a perfectly good part? :smt002

Yea i think the "L" looks better. say if you buy one for 600 quid then cant you strip the engine you take out an flog it in bits if your mechanically minded surely you could make some money back that way. plus all the other bits that would have to go.

I do believe most racers use the H model, but go for whatever suits you.

On the subject of buying a better bike, surely the fun is had in working on the bike that your doing up? It is for me personally, some of the best bikes are made up from people who are told 'theres no point'. If you can afford it, go for it, just make sure you enjoy doing it.
