Got one for you

Post by zxrman »

Is it possible to turbo charge a zxr400?
I wanna know....

How much would it cost?
How much would it improve my performance?
Is it even possible?
Has anyone ever seen one?
What cc bikes can it keep up with now?

And finally is it a good idea?

I know i could just go out and buy a 600 - 750 but everyone has one, who has a turbo charged 400?

The answer..... Me :smt002

Thats why :smt003

I guess it's possible to turbo just about anything!

Bear in mind the bigger the turbo (more hp), the bigger the lag - which would be an absolute nightmare and possibly lethal on a bike!

I believe there is a 600cc 'bolt on' type turbo charger available - but obviously it's pretty bulky so finding somewhere to fit the damn thing may be hard if you still want to be able to lean into corners! Upgrading all your gaskets would be essential, too!

For reference, a 444cc rebore will cost £600 - £1500 depending whether you do the work yourself or get a garage to do it, and it will get you to between 80 and 90hp at the rear wheel.

That's easily enough to stay with a 2002 ZX6-R in a straight line. :smt002

it is possible but you'll have to do a lot of work, firstly it will need to be fited were the rad is as it need to be close the the down pipes. Also if you want a good bost then you'll need to plumb it into you oil system.

if you do it then please make a big write up on it would be nice to see it happening!

It's probably me being dumb.. but are you saying that you've turbo'd it already?

i think we went through this some months ago... pointless to have a tbow picture this you in a long sweeping bend then it kicks in... much more sensible to have a supercharger but you might as well just buy a new bike bit faster to much work for a humble 400 engine
Remember speed kills, so does smoking, drinking, drugs, fast food and many more good things

turbos on bikes dont really suffer from lag. you can fit a T4 onto something like a 600 and it wont show much lag, just because a bike expels such a large volume of exhaust gasses that it would spin the turbo up rather quickly :D
The bike only goes as fast as you want it to...
...i know, it's great :D

i seem to remember a turbo'd hyboosa would need the same size turbo as a 3.5 litre car would.
so a turbo suitable for a 1.6 litre car would do a nice job on a zxr ;)
