engine braking..

just wondering, how does the zxr cope with engine braking. should i be using mainly the discs and changing down when i've wiped off most of my speed? or changing down as i brake?
learning to drive a car they tell you to brake from say 50 until you reach nearly stopping when you clutch in and drop into second.. until you stop when you drop into 1st....
but on the zxr from 50 could i say drop it down from 5/6th to 2nd or 3rd to use engine braking whilst also using the front discs?

remember that bike engines rev higher than cars so u can drop down the gears a higher speeds without too much worry

4 stroke bike engines do have good engine braking tho

i from a high speed when lets say im goin into a decent bend, i drop a couple of gears, then dab the brakes

what you doing at 50 in 5th/6th in the first place? you should be in first gear at 50.

i think its something that is individual to each rider. it also depends on how quickly you need to stop / slow down.
On the ring (where i do most mileage), I change down whilst braking and blip the throttle whilst i do it.
The ZXR has next to no engine braking - small displacement and its an inline 4. So dont expect to slow down in a hurry if you just roll off the throttle.
Dont think too much about it - you'll find out what works for you

Whoa whoa, hang on a minute mine doesn't have a slipper clutch. This isn't true is it?

yep all the zxr's are fitted with a "back tourque limiter" but as standard its set up to have almost 0 effect..

V-twins give the best engien braking

Well this sounds great, I am always locking the rear wheel when down shifting at high revs on the approach to corners, although it does look cool with the rear wiggleing around smoking I would love to know how to increase the slip of the "back torque limiter" ?????

easier way, just release the clutch out slower

i use the gears to slow down alot to be honest its no problem i hope if the engine blows ill let ya know

as long as your not changeing down so early that its forceing the RPM over the limter its fine

na dont do that very often i have locked the back end as well thats scary when your comin up to a corner
