Re: Tank Key
Well the KW8 Key is certainly for the ignition,
But I have a different key for the Petrol tank and Rear Seat lock.
I had a look through those keys on that website and couldn't see a Kawasaki key that looks like the one I have.
Ill try and get a picture of it tonight, And there is one place that I need to try that is local that does key cutting and is a Motor factors so chances are they might have one.
If not maybe I will have to try a J+S store ?

Re: Tank Key
not if you've had to replace your ignition barrel at some point, then you'd have one for that and one for the tank and 'boot'superman wrote:hm yea thats what you want wont the same size key fit all? my ignition key fits everything.

Re: Tank Key
Hmmmmm
Looking at the two keys, The tank key looks like its a shorter version of the KW8
Maybe be able to get someon to cut it out of a KW8 key and just leave a blank bit on the end.
Shall let you know how i get on.

Re: Tank Key
i had no problems getting a spare set cut for mine
timpsons has a full range of key blanks. if only the monkey working the machine had cut the key right it would have been ok..
tis ok though, they re-cut it for free.
as with the tank, i think i have one key for the ignition and tank, and one for the seat.
cheers

Re: Tank Key
yeah but they will still be able to be cut from the same blank, because your tank/seat key would have been your old ignition key and the new ignition key will have opened the tank and seat on the donor bike.rene wrote:not if you've had to replace your ignition barrel at some point, then you'd have one for that and one for the tank and 'boot'superman wrote:hm yea thats what you want wont the same size key fit all? my ignition key fits everything.

what I said was that you could cut a key for any lock on any ZXR from the same blank.
I expect that if you collected hundreds of ZXRs together you would find that any given key would work in more tanks than ignitions, just because it doesn't use the whole length for the tank, and hence there are fewer combinations.
However no key would work in all tanks. Otherwise why bother having a lock?
From experience of running VW transporters, there's something like a 1 in 4 chance that your key will open any other van - from 60's ones through to the front engined ones. But the key won't work in the ignition. I think this is fairly widely true - A mate of mine used to use a Ford Orion key to get into a Mk1 Fiesta he used to have.
