haha ROFL.... why do you think that, i would have thought pretty good.... in reality if they made a new 400 i think you would be lookin maybe 80 bhp on a bike of maybe 100kg or less... now that would be good the more i mull it over....

Its an inline parallel twin so its not gonna be the pokiest engine int he world, but hey, itsll be great for people making thier way up in the ranks so its not all bad. Im just peed off there isnt a new 400 in the pipeline. They should do it, they did it with the Z1000.....

thinking about it to it would be a better place to start on the bike ladder wouldnt it as opposed to jumping right on a modern 6. just think what they sould do. i think it would be almost as fast as a modern 6 anyway....

but whats the point in making the 400 if they are bringing out the 250?

whos gonna buy the 250, then move to the 400 then finally plug for a 600?

ppl will go straight from the 250 to 600+

is a shame but the short and curlies of it are the manufacturers want to sell as many bikes as poss and i think if the 250 comes out, ppl will not bother with the 400

Thing is a 250 commuter to a 400 sports bike will be a big step, they are completely different bikes at the end of the day. MY GPX 250 barely put out 40hp and its practically the same engine. A new ZXR400 could potentially have twice that power and would be a completely different machine in comparison.

i c your point but u know as well as i do, majority of ppl want to move up the cc ladder as quick as poss.

i think they would sell more 400s than the 250 but as it has turned out, if the 250 is a definate, the 400 wont get a look in as ppl will go straight to a 6 or bigger

peer pressure ain t it

why did they make a zxr250 and zxr400? or the cbr250 and the cbr400? personaly i dont really see the point in 250's you might as well get a 125 2t whats only slightly slower than the 250 4t's then go 600/400 rout

Yeah i see your point too, thing is bikes already exist in the market that the 250 is aiming for, albeit old bikes...

I think it was mainly to do with the Japanese motorcycle license laws.

For a start, as part of their test, I think they have to lay the bike on it's side and proove they can lift it up unaided! Wonder how many GSXR1100's sold in Japan...?

Race categories undoubtedly had some bearing on the engine sizes, too. :smt002

But aren't they supposed to be bringing in similar limits for UK licenses?

If so, I'd have thought it doubtful that it will go from 125cc to 600...

EDIT: I believe it was a change in the Japanese license that killed off the 400cc market, too!

im not 100% on the new laws but i think you have to pass one test to ride a de restriced 125 then after 2 years of that you can take a test for any power bike

i THINK thats correct
