newbie, happy new year

Post by james#70 »

Happy new year everyone

Just signed up today, im a member of a few other forums, rtoc.org (renault turbo owners club), mxtrax.co.uk (motocross forum), and a few others

One of the 1st posts i read was about headgaskets on zxr400's, thats the bike im interested in, why am i attracted to engines with headgasket problems, r5 gtt, and the zxr lol!

Anyway, did my cbt 3 years ago, had a ped while i was 16, did my bike test the other week and passed, yay! And am looking at geting a 400 for my 1st road bike, heard the zxr400 is the 400 to have.

After being involved in renault 5's for a while i know most the signs of problems, so can tell a good 1, know common faults etc etc

What should i be looking out for, any models to stay away from, common problems, signs of problems?

cheers

Welcome to the forum mate, you'll be needing this if your buying

http://www.zxrworld.co.uk/zxr400/buyers.html

Theres 4 models, the H, J, L and M model, The H and L models are the most common

viewtopic.php?f=69&t=3612

I wouldnt say theres any particular model you need to avoid, you could buy any of them and not have to worry.

welcome!
i know the r5 turbo engine indeed aswell, my mothers got re-built on our drive about 5 times before she moved on to something worse.
the engine on the zxr400 is easy enough to get to if you know your workshop well enough, and working on it is pretty simple as-well, finding a torque wrench that would allow small enough incriments was the biggest hardship for me lol.
