What To Cook For Valentines Day?

Post by Jamz »

I'm going to cook for a VERY picky wench this Thursday night.

Basically, she'll only really eat chicken - but not off the bone. Actually the only other meat she does like is penis and kebab, although I make sure she skips the chilli sauce if they're together.

Anyway, I need a good, reliable dish made with stuff I can pick up from the local supermarket.

Any ideas?

I'm thinking of chicken, leek and camonbere pasties with cheesy mashed potato on the side, but am definitely open to any recommendations!

another variation is baked potatos, cook the potatoes, scoop out the insides and mash with FRENCH goats cheese and fresh spinach then restuff the spuds and put back in the oven to warm.

get some individual strawberry cheesecakes and top them with fresh cream and strawberry sauce, put a bit of flair into it, don't just dump it on top.

LOL Rob :smt003 - unfortunately this is going to be more a Feeding Week than a Fun Week... :smt009

The fillets in white wine sauce could be good.

I don't think I'll bother with starters this time because we'll be starving to death after work, so I want to keep it pretty fast and simple this time!

I've also had Thai Green Chicken suggested, so I shall have to take a look at some recipes for that! :smt001

I'm thinking of Chocolate Refrigerator Cake! Remember that email that went round a few years ago of Jamie Olivers 'stolen' book?

Here you go - very easy and never fails to go down well:

Chocolate Fridge Cake

5 1/4 ounces (150 grams) digestive biscuits
3 1/2 ounces (100 grams) pecans
3 1/2 ounces (100 grams) pistachio nuts
10 glace cherries
2 ready made meringue nests, crumbled into small pieces
5 1/4 ounces (150 grams) butter
1 tablespoon golden syrup
7 ounces (200 grams) good quality chocolate
Cocoa powder, for dusting

Break the biscuits into small pieces directly into a large bowl. Add the pecans, pistachio nuts, cherries and bits of meringue. Put the rest of the ingredients, except the cocoa powder, into a bowl and put over a pan of simmering water on low heat to melt.
Mix the ingredients together and place in the container which acts as your mold. To help with turning out, line a 12 by 8-inch (30 by 20 centimetre) container with cling film, first leaving plenty of extra film at the edges to fold over the top.
Leave in the refrigerator to firm up then turn out and cut into chunky slices. This cake can be kept in an airtight container and actually improves after a couple of days.

Yield: 4 servings
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Inactive Prep Time: 2 hours
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
