thatll only be because they will want to confirm what the vehicle registration is. Weather its the right size or font (which i was refering to) isnt a concern for them.deviant wrote:tell you what rob, you try turning up to your next MOT with no plate on and see what they sayRedexRobB wrote:Its not part of the MOT check so i dont see why it shouldnt, they might give you an advisory but they cant fail you on it as its not constituting a dangerous riding condition.

Re: finished with my woman cos she couldn't help me with my mind
I think you are right that it only has to be legible (along with engine and frame numbers) for MOT purposes.
However I suspect it is left fairly open to the testers discretion what 'legible' actually means, and you'd have no grounds for argument if they decided to say "this plate doesn't conform to standard, therefore I can't read it, therefore i'm failing it." You can't exactly go running to VOSA and complain that "the nasty MOT man wouldn't give me an MOT with my illegal reg plate". Depends where you go and whether the tester got any last night .
It's probably all academic really given a) it'll be a free retest item; and b) it takes a couple of minutes to swap. So you could either try it and have to go back if it gets failed, or just change it for the MOT every year and run the (slim) risk of getting pulled the rest of the time

Re: finished with my woman cos she couldn't help me with my mind
you will fail your mot for small plates ect, i know because mine failed on it!
Same if the plate is damaged or has water behind it and looks funny it will fail the MOT for it

hmmmm, seems to depend really, just looking at this forum here
http://www.motester.co.uk/forums/forum4/385-1.html
looks like after sept2001 the plates have to have some sort of marking of where they were made. And they seem to be failing some on deterioration.

Re: finished with my woman cos she couldn't help me with my mind
went out for nearly an hour on it yesterday in the wet so god knows what my polishing looks like now.Met up with jamz & Gem plan was to go for a good blast but the rain came down and they chickened off so had to go out all on my own, had a few running problems like the bike started on 4 cylinders then dropped one, then crawled home at 5 mph on 2 cylinders, been that long since i've ridden a bike i fogot you have to put fuel in em.emptied 2 cans of fuel into the tank and it still aint full but ran like a dream after that.
