The 'how noisey is your clutch' thread

Post by Scott221 »

Coming back from the gym tonight, my clutch seemed extremely noisey, even more than normal. How noisey is yours? Why is it even noisey in the first place?

With the engine rattle and this im starting to get quite concerned

my 750 sounds like a tractor when cold, its a kwack thing dont worry about it.

If you think these are loud go listen to a duke with a open clutch cover, now thats a rattal and a half

my 400 is as noisy as hell really, but been reliable as owt with no problems in over a year....so can't be that much of an issue. I just took it as thats how they are supposed to be ? :smt017
Only issue i had was sprockets and chain needed replacing, kept jumping off the sprocket, not nice at speed :smt009

lack of maintence on the chain is not the bikes fault :P its a service part after all!

my 400 was amazingly reliable, did about 20,000 miles in a year with hardly any servicing/looking after.

yes true, but i had never been on a bike with a dodgy chain, learning curve for me. only past test year n half ago, every problem is a new experience to me. lol
Only did 1500 approx miles last year, and kept the chain greased, more to do with previous owner i reckon than me :smt001

Mine rattles a bit, think it's because there is a bit of play on the basket :smt012

There is. It's gonna wear more. They do that.

916 sounds less like a rattle and more like an epileptic holding a bell.

And my 400 and 750 sound like buses, at least the 750's exhaust is louder than the clutch tho.

The trouble with having an open mind, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

When i first got my zxr it did my head in, then i stubbied my exhaust which made it so loud i couldnt hear the clutch. it slowly came back tho! until my clutch started to slip when the rattle went completly. Of course when i changed the plates it came back tho :(. the reason for the rattle is a loose plate in the basket behind the clutch plates. Its nothing to worry about, it doesnt cause anymore wear. its just Kawasaki being lazy.

i only came across this when changin my plates in work when my boss reached in a started playin about with some random piece at the back of my basket
"thats the reason for the rattle!"
"WTF GET UR DIRTY HANDS OUTTA MY ENGINE"
:)
aparantly all the 400s have a noisy clutch but the kawasakis are the worst. not too sure why but that plate definatly isnt a very good fit. dont know if its wear an tear or like that from new but my mates 2001 zxr has a far worse rattle than mine

Ive heard virtually new ZXR's with rattles louder than ones with some proper mileage on them. Always wondered what it was that caused it.
