how can I improve?

Post by doodlebug »

Hi guys, Newbie here!!! as im new ill give ya a little background, from Essex, UK. I had a L7 ZXR400 from 2005-2006, sold it, bought a C1h ZX6R, which I didnt like, Crashed that twice, sold it, bought another ZXR400, L3 this time around, I cant see myself making the mistake of getting rid of a ZXR again!!!

but now back to the topic, how can i improve my zxr400?? aesthetically, mechanically, anything. I want some flatslide carbs for sure, so if anyone knows of any floating about!! anyway, my bike

Hey mate, welcome to the forums.

First of all, new tyres. Dunlops are really not that good at all, and are too big on the rear. I HIGHLY recommend Pirelli super corsa pro's, i have them on mine at the moment and they are just fantastic! You've done the right thing in getting some aftermarket pipes and a micron can. Had it set up on a dyno? Next thing id suggest is a double bubble. The ZXR is really see what you get. It costs alot of money to start tuning the engine and even then you will only get small increases in power.

Flatside carbs - they are a menace from what i gather, purley for track use, not advised for road use at all.

Trust me on the tyres, i was absolutely astounded at what a difference they made, it was a completely different bike!

Other than that, the bike looks great, you've got the best paint job they did IMO. Have a search on ebay mate, look in around the forums for other sites and just enjoy the bike.

im not changing the tyres, i have only done 50odd miles on those hoops lol i only fitted them afew weeks ago, flatslides should be okay, i only do afew thousand miles a year on the bike!! the exhuast system came with the bike, its a micron stainless steel system i belive, i stubbied the can a little, not vast amounts but i took approx 5 inches off of it!! also removed the baffles while i had it in peices, not had it dyno'd yet, i will do this when i locate some flatslides

thats gorgeous mate why change it? only thing i'd change is the screen for a darker one, just don't spoil it with a double bubble.

i had a dark screen on my last zxr400, to be fair im more kean on the clear screen!! not looks wise, but to ride it fast with a clear seems easier somehome, maybe becuase you take more in if you can see everything clearly!! i was thinking about ditching the mirrors, in my opnion theyre the only thing that lets the zxr400 down, their to big and bulky, can you get blanking plates for these or not??

some pics of my old zxr with the dark screen (these are the only pics i have of her)

i recognise the Graham stamp, is that graham who had a 'Joe's' VFR400? In fact i see it there in the background. Is that Luke in the middle of the road in that first pic aswell? I recognise that ginger nut anywhere  The one who lobbed his playstation rep VFR into a conservatory? Had an R6 last time i saw him.

Ive got ZX6 mirrors on my zxr. Had to mod them abit but the screw fixing's were relativley the same. Try doing it like that.
