Hi

Does anyone know of a list of track times for 400s around any circuits? or what time people are doing round circuits?

There used to be lap records published on the bemsee site, but I can't find it.

Do you want lap records, or just a good time for a trackdayer? or a fast race time?

Snetterton mid 1.15.??
Cadwell 1.38.?? maybe high 1.37

Cool cheers, well i just really wanted to compare my time round donington to people that race! So maybe just looking at a good race time (middlish) something i can aim at.

My 2nd track day at Donington i managed to do 1.57ish with a completely standard bike apart from the Brembo and Hel brake lines. I'm guessing most of the 400 at race days are all pushing 60bhp??? with tuned engines.

Most bikes at the front will be over 70bhp. But it's not so much the power, if it's handling well, then a stock powered bike won't be far off given the same rider. Bemsee haven't raced at Donnington for many years until last month but the 400s weren't there. I've had a look at the times and would guess that low 1.20's would be about there, but that was without the loop bit, so whatever that takes add that on Then for Midfield, add about 8 to 10 seconds, so 1.30 plus the loop

Damn!! that is quick still seems like ive got a long way to go to knock a fair few secs off my time lol! So what are the majority of tracks they do for the 400s and do you have any info on race meets which i can go to and see what they are all about???

greville, that one fast time for Oulton, anythin under the golden 2.00 i thought was good. was askin bout my gearing on the greybikeforum, do i remember right that you used a 48 rear for oulton?

Oulon and Croft I put ??? by because I may be a second out there. If it isn't 1.51 it may be 1.52. All the others are within that second

As for gearing, I didn't reply because I really don't rememeber, hang on, I'll see If I wrote it down somewhere....................

Sorry, can't find it, but, you are probably right 14/48, I would be fairly sure about that.

Oh, and it was Steve Thomes on an RVF, did 1.52.23 in 2003, and If I remember correctly, in 2004 he was trying to get his lap record back and needed a 1.51 but it was wet

PS, Croft was a 1.31 by Leyton Walker on an RGV.

Clever guys yea i read the other thread Jake and had a look at all that which was really helpful thanks!

Was also wondering without doing anything to the engine how else can i squeeze a bit more top end out?? Will increasing the size of sprockets help eg. more teeth on the front and a smaller one on the back or increase the teeth on the rear and keep the front standard????

Clever wouldn't have been the word I would have used, mad, talented, skilled, crazy, I dunno, just plain fast.

In all seriousness, the best way to get your lap times down is to get your suspension well sorted, and get some proper instruction, not just from your average track day instructor/travelling marshal, a proper race/rider instructor. That will be the best money you'll spend.

Gearing will make a difference, but not a lot! as an example, I ran the wrong size front sprocket for the first third of a season without realising it, and was still leading the championship, ironically until the point I discovered it

Anyway, I'd try one less tooth on the front, or go bigger on the rear. Genaraly, 1 less tooth on the front is tha same as adding 3 teeth on the rear.

Hi guys was just wondering if anyone knows of any 400 race meets as I would like to go see what it is all about. Im very keen to get involved and want to start racing next year.
If anyone knows of anything would be good to know to give me an insight into the race scene???

Hey cheers for that Ballsout the info and links were a great help thanks. Looked at a couple of the racing clubs around and some of the lap times for comparison.
Going to give them a ring this week to see about the Novice Training day and some other info.

I did see about a stock racing class in one of the clubs. Dont really know if it would be good to have a look at this class or the Formula 400 class?

I think the motoforum have to approve new members before you can post, and as it's mainly run by bemsee racers who are at Slitherstone this weekend, you may not get approved until they get back

Just put a post up saying "interested in 400 racing" or something, introduce yourself and you should get a response, one of which will be saying get yourself along to a meeting and get talking to the 400 racers, mostly a freindly bunch , but be aware if they're getting ready for a race they probably won't want to be disturbed in their preparation you may get a cold response

With regard to Stock 400 racing there is a club running it, I think emra, but they just mainly race a Mallory, so unless you like Mallory, I would suggest it's not the best way to go. I gather the bikes have to have an mot, number plate etc, but can also be tuned, so I'm not sure I understand why they don't run in F400 , BUT, I know very little about that so cold be completely wrong and stand to be corrected
