Cold Tyres + Slipping Clutch + Damp Morning Road = Ouch!

Post by MillaMeter »

Finishing work this morning at 6:30am I quickly put my leathers on and added a lil choke to the bike. As I pulled away and gave it some juice out of a bend, the back end of the bike decided to swing out..... then grip.... then chuck me off the other side. The bike slid down the road damaging pretty much everything on the right hand side. Exhaust, fairings, mirror, brake lever and brake pedal. Luckly I had crash protectors fitted which did save a lot of damage. But the most thing I'm upset about is the exhaust as it was a stainless oval straight through which sounded awesome :smt010

I've got very bad road rash on my right hip, cuts and more bruises on my knee, hands and shoulder. My lid is well... fooked. leathers are bruised, nothing major.

Thankfully I'm ok, the bike will live to ride again. I wont let a lil spill get to me! chopper

I will get some pics of the damage later. but for now here's my road rash.

looks pain full fella, got to ask though, if you were wearing leathers how have you got road rash?

best thing to do is just get back on the bike and carry on riding!

Well, stupid me the 1 time I didn't wear the bottom half leather jeans, I decided to go out that night without them. I was wearing everything but the jeans only because I was gonna be late for work. I'm really kicking myself now :(

Funny thing is I was doing like 5-10mph if that.

I'm usally pretty good and wear my leathers all the time, just the once I didn't and I lend up paying for it, BIG TIME. I've had to phone up cradleys today to buy a new rear brake pedal, a new engine frame mount, bought a new exhaust, new fairing kit and finally a new wing mirror. And to be honest, I don't really care how much I spend on her because it's my pride and joy and I'll spend what ever It needs to get her right.

Well I know 1 good thing, the bike was developing a slight rattle at the top of the engine, since the crash the noise has gone and the engine sounds so smooth. :smt017

THe bike will live again no doubt :)

LOL! :smt005

I keep my crash helmet and leathers by the side of the bed - what more protection can you need??? :smt002

On a serious note, though, I just can't ride without full leathers. It feels weird.

If it takes me 10 mins to kit-up for a 2 min journey I'll still do it - it's just part of the whole routine for me!

nice, my brother recently came off his bike and has a nice belt of gravelrash where his jacket rode up. his crash was due to his lack of servicing skills on his brake calipers which locked up on him in the wet.

The last time i came off the high side of a bike it dislocated my hip, very painful. biggrin

The trouble with having an open mind, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Spent a good £9 on plastic primer and matt black paint to paint the inside of the fairing which came out very good. I've just put the nose cone on for measurement which was a complete giraffe to get to fit. Where I stacked it so hard on the right, the front fairing bracket under the clockes was twisted quite bad. 1 broom handle soon sorted that out :smt003

Some progress on the bike.

Before I begin, my apologises to community for turning this thread into a build thread which is now in the wrong spot. So if any admins would be kind enough to move it for me, that would be much appreciated :smt001

Back again with some more pictures.

First of all, the fairing that was on it in the pictures above were temp ones, now that my full fairing kit arrived from skidmarx the bike looks better than ever! Skidmarx make AMAZING glove fitting fairings so a big thumbs up to Skidmarx :smt023

Here's a cheapo can I bought from Egay, sounds really nice and is fully S/S
A new rear brake pedal was also bought as the other 1 sheared off by the toe bit.
Image

Next is the rear caliper, now this wasn't part of my accident but the old 1 was pretty much fooked. I bled the rear brake back in Feb and when I tightened the nipple, the casting just cracked in half! Oops! So yet again, bought a S/hand 1 from Egay from a L5, bought a new seal and piston kit for it, sprayed it all up in metallic HT gold paint and here it is! (New allen bolts jazzed it up a bit too)
Image
Image

Now these S/S headers also weren’t part of my accident but they are well worth the money and my old 1s were starting to look a bit on the shabby side. These neatened up quite nicely and sound awesome! The main point in this photo is the new engine mount bracket which only cost £13 squid from Cradleys. The old 1 quite literally exploded into a million pieces on impact. There was so many bits of it on the road, I honestly couldn't be arsed to pick them all up.
I also had to rebend the metal bracket that connects from the rad to the engine which holds the RH side fairing on, these were easily accomplished using 2 handy lock grips.
Image

Next is the front nose fairing which was torn to pieces from the heavy drop and slide. Skidmarx to the rescue! Perfect fit and no filing/sanding required.
Also a new RH white mirror was fitted and certainly looks and works better then not having 1 at all. Also added some very very neat front fairing LED indies which are amazing bright and defiantly won’t be missed.
Image
Image

Next up, the side fairings. These also fit like a glove and I really only needed a drill to make the pilot holes bigger to fit the rubber grommets. I also had to cut out a lil rectangle shape of fibreglass from the underneath as I think Skidmarx forgot to cut that bit.
Image

That’s it for now :(

Next up is the screen made by Powerbronze.

I'll post some more images when some more parts arrive.
