kv6 was NOT a honda lump.
it was a v6 k series lump. the 825 had a kv6 while the 827 used a honda c27 lump.

I stand corrected on the CA27.
Just a couple I dragged from the Archives section on 800.co.uk

Those, apart from anything else, were what I based my statement upon.

Shame, really. The rep most people give them is, by and large, pretty much unwarranted. Still, there are yet some nutters such as us keeping them on the road...

The Elise is a bit of a tragedy, if you ask me. Awesome cars, and then they go and stick a -ing Rover engine in?!?!?!Boonie wrote:Remember that until recently the Lotus Elise was using the K series lump. I had a Rover 220 Coupe and that was great fun. Shame the chasis twisted so much when cornering fast.![]()
As for high mileage, it depends on the age of the car I reckon. For example... If it's 5 years old and done 120k miles you can pretty much guarantee that it's a rep mobile and it's mostly been motorway miles which quite frankly is nothing. On top of that it'll probably have been serviced undr company expenses so things will been done on time under a lease agreement.
If however the car is 10 years old and done 40k miles I would stay clear because it's probably just been driven to and from the train station all week and never really got up to temperature. That's why I would never buy a old low mileage bike with 'only dry miles' in the ad. Rubber seals/bushes rot after time if there's no heat put through them.
As long as stuff gets done on time and when it needs doing, there's no reason a modern engine shouldn't last 300k miles. Mate of mine had a 225k mile Vectra before the head gasget went, and he was a nutter. My BMW 535 had done 120k miles and on the last service I did we pressure tested the V8 and it was at 98% across the board. As long as you keep changing the oil the engine should be fine.
I reckon you want to be looking at the affects of weather more. Look at the underneath of the car, wheel arches, etc, and defo pay a lot of atention to the radiator.
Now slip a 500hp 2.6 Hayabusa V8 into one, and THAT could be fun!
Only Metro I'd have is the 6R4. Ooh yes! Is that the same Rover V6 in there that everyone was chuntering on about? There was something about that engine that I can't quite remember... Maybe it was the Rover V8 with (literally) 2 cylinders chopped off, or something like that?
Anyway, I'd best go back a bit further in the thread to find out how this came out of the Toyota thread???

it's the same engine that was in the Jag XJ220....but shoved in the back of a metroJamz wrote:There was something about [the 6R4] engine that I can't quite remember...
it is a shame. they were good cars in the early/mid 90's. It's just that (the 75 aside) they were still the same cars when they finally folded.Vard66 wrote:Shame, really. not really, the british motoring industry is alive and kicking - there's a hell of a lot of cars being made in the UK, it's just all the volume manufacturing is japanese owned.superman wrote:rovers done an gone now lol. just a distant memo. bit like the british motoring industry all together.

Re: How many miles is too many when buying a used car ?
Aye, even the 800s tailed off post '98. '99 and '00 Vitesses may be desireable simply because they are newer, but they're not as nice as '96, 7 and 8 versions, somhow. And I've yet to meet anyone who could call the 25/45/75... well, nice. They may be ok to drive, and relatively ok power wise, but aesthetically, they're just not appealing, as most of the older cars were. For example, if I had the cash to splash, I'd have Rob's flame red 220 GSiT in a SHOT.
Hang on, I'll show you.

Now that is why I love flame red, and lowered 200 GSi's.

Only reason I'd have a Maestro is if Victor decided to part with 'Mental' after 16 years... YouTube it, bonkers just isn't the word, hence the nickname.
