odometer readings

Post by parby81 »

Can people confirm what a UK bike should read the odometer in?

I'm being told by a chap that his bike is an official bike and has UK clocks. This shows ht espeed in mph, but he says the odo is still in kilometres. Sounds a bit strange to me confuddled

Any help chaps and chapesses

That is indeed strange, a mph speedo will only read/record in miles unless some sort of converter has been put on it.

he says its an official import, not grey, but the clocks are UK hence reads mph but odo in km's. does that sound right?

my mph speedo reads correctly in mph as the main scale but the units go up in kilometers. has no converter whatsoever.

youll find alot of aprilias (particularly rs 50) do it too. nothing wrong with it.

This is an imported bike but an official one by kawazaki not a parallel import/Grey .
Hence the reason for the mileage being read in kilometers not miles per hour.
See if you can get him to take a picture of the CDI unit so you can see what colour sticker is on it, iirc a blue sticker suggests it is a UK bike, any other colour and its from japan/elsewhere.

to be open to everyone interested in this bike there has been a question raised over the speedo on here, from the information given to me and passed to her when she bought it from johns of romford in 2001 .the speedo is as was from new it reads in mph for the speed and milage is in kilometers and is the genuine milage/kilometer reading for this bike. as per service history and mot certs.she also believes johns of romford originaly supplied the bike to its 2 previous lady owners
All very strange, that speedo isnt the original, thats come off of something else. How the hell and more to the point, why, would a speedo read in MPH and record in KHM?? :smt017

well that leaves me with a quandry then, to bid or not to bid, that is the question?

If all the paper work is there proving what he says, then technically everything should be fine. hmmmmm confuddled

Canadian?? wtf?

The only thing i would be concerned about at this point is the bikes original mileage, thats not the original speedo so its either going to be close to what it should be or nothing near it.

Go and have a look would be the best thing, if all else is ok you only need to think about weather the speedo bothers you or not?
