Finished

Post by Cloud Wolf »

Well gave it the last coats yesterday, put some parts back on about 1 o clock in the morning, skipped my last two lessons at school and came home and put the rest back together. Just got back from my test ride, FUCKING HELL!!!!! It feels so beautiful. The bike rides so nicely and i can't believe its finally done. Overall i think ive spent about 850 including buying it obviously. Pics are below i hope confuddled
And before anyone mentions yes im wearing combat trousers and not my leathers and also trainers and not my boots, but it was a 5 minute ride.
Oh and also a pic of my jacket i bought this time last year from a vintage shop (while i had a yamaha; its a cool jacket)

EDIT: Pictures too big, hopefully the the master will add them when he logs on

For anyone who's interested (including Rob) there were 6 coats of crap minimum on all parts i resprayed, oh and anyone who uses primerfiller spray is a complete arsehole. Took all the paint and primer off then used 2/3 coats of primer and then 4 coats of paint. The primer was great but the gloss black wasnt as good, still much better than i thought it would turn out from a cheap home job, but the paint is really not thick enough and the amount you get in a can doesnt cover much. Would advise looking into 2 pac, i read a while ago about Crawleys putting 2pac into cans, if anyone can verify this i'm sure it would help some people. So to your earlier post Rob the tank ws taken down to bare metal, primered, then painted.

cheers mate, looking at painting mine sometime soon (with matt black) and the tank has been stripped bare, wondered if i needed to bother with primer at all. Or could i just use black primer (which is a matt finish anyway) and not bother with anything on top?

yeah, when i was ashopping for supplies there was no black primer, also would make it difficult to see if you've got your frist coat of black paint on. If you are going to spray i would suggest using normal grey primer, plastic primer on plastic etc, which also works fine on metal btw. but do try to look into the whole 2pac in a can scenario as the paint i got from halfords could have better (for a £50 job its great). But then again if you're going to go matt black then i think you'll be fine, also i bought a 'gun' attachment like Jamz advised and it was amazing well worth the £1.50

if you buy a can of matt black paint or any paint it will advise you on what primer to use, matt black paint use a grey primer, check it and tell me i'm wrong, personally meself i'll just take the stuff into work and pop it in the spray booth :smt003 and yes go for that £1.50 cos your finger will definitely go numb b4 you finish.

looks good mate :)

Rob, i sprayed my tank from bare metal without primer .. although i was using proper 2 pack with a compressor and spraygun .. (get a mask kids, i was coughing up green shite and felt ill for days) still looks ace .. try hickley(?) valtone they are a trade supplier and can colour match 2 pack then dump it in aerosols for you.. only a few days shelf life once mixed up but less hassle/mess than proper kit, and the finish is literally WORLDS away from halford's spray-on/wipe off skunk.. petrol resistant too :) (like properly)

shelf life is short due to the hardener used in 2k. by the way if anyone wants a spray booth let me know.
