OK guys this is long shot

I'm flying into Liverpool on the 15th June to pick up a ZXR400 (surprise surprise)
I'll be meeting the guy at Birkenhead Docks where the boat goes to Belfast and bringing the bike home on the boat.

Problem is the guy does NOT have a key for the bike it has been laid up for some time and the key is lost/missing getting it on to the boat will be a nightmare cos the steering lock is on.

Now I could just ask him to bring a screw driver and a hammer and I'll break it but then I'd have to find a new lock set.
So I wonder is there anyone out there who could meet me there that day with a tool kit or at least the tools I need to remove the top yoke and replace it with one that does not have a switch/lock.

Given that I'd need to drop the bottom yoke a little to get the top one off I'd need some way to support the bike as well but if need be I'll lay it on it's side with the fairings off.

Other ideas/suggestions would be most welcome

Yes I could do that and if need be I will but I'm on a very tight budget and the flight is booked with NO luggage to check in it was cheaper that way

but why would I need to know the price in euros ???

I live in Northern Ireland which is still so far as I know part of the UK so we have sterling just like you cos it's the same country

The yoke needs to drop a little because with the steering lock on the top yoke wont just lift straight up it needs to be clear of the stem to allow it to move forward

i would suggest calling a locksmith to come and free it up might be worth a pun not sure how much they would charge but it couldnt be that much

I'd be willing to bet it'd be cheaper to get a new lock set than a locksmith!

I'd just break the lock and have a look on Ebay...

£50 should get you the barrel, tank cap and rear lock even from a breaker. If you're not fussed about using 2 keys then you're looking at under £20 for a barrel.

Fair point but this one will be for resale once I get it sorted..............so I'd like to sell it with one key.

I think I have a yoke with a ing switch so if push come to shove then yes.

when did you last check the exchange rate? £10 is about €12.50

the majority of no frill airlines will either charge £10 or 15euros for bags

If you can take the bike to the locksmith it would be much cheaper, but otherwise there's a standard call-out fee for most whether it takes them 30 seconds or 3 hours - and as this is where they make their living, they sting you big-time!

Still worth phoning up a few to ask, I guess... i suppose it is really only getting the lock picked that you need.
