Onboard Footage

Post by Jamz »

I hooked a cam up to my bike recently just to see what the footage looked like...

Anyway, I did a run around a very unique local road - not doing anything silly, but it was a pretty cool vid. I uploaded it so others could see - not as a 'look at me' thing because it really wasn't a fast on-the-edge run.

The problem was non-bikers got to see it.

One even said I was giving bikers a bad name, even though he hadn't actually watched the video!

So I pulled all the footage.

The thing is, although I was knee-down, I was nowhere near my or the bikes limits, and I was also below the actual speed limit for that piece of road!

Have I been a prick uploading it in the first place, am I a prick to pull the vid, or is any kind of onboard footage just asking for Trouble?

Meh maybe - getting a few opinions on it all first!

I don't really want the Police turning up to have a look, even if there's nothing to see!

I'm pretty sure just leaning a bike over to turn a corner isn't breaking any laws, but it's the non-bikers who freak out over it all because they don't have a clue...

Here's the actual comment someone made:

"Haven't seen the video, but sounds a bit irresponsible. Things like this give bikers a bad name.

Sure it won't do you any favours in the long-term either, posting videos like that. It'll come back and bite you if you're not careful."

I don't think it's worth the hassel...

i think getting your knee down on the road is a very grey area of law.

i personally believe that if old bill saw you getting your knee down on the road, they could potentially do you for driving without due care and attention (wreckless driving)

just my opinion

the police need a few things to actually do you. If the police did turn up just say it wasnt you, they havent got your reg number or your house address. Not to mention by the sounds of it you didnt acually brake anylaws, could say that your reckless riding ect but without a speedo shot and 100% proff that you were they really wont bother.

I don't think it's worth the hassel...

The statement in bold is what makes me want to punch people. what kind of tard gives an opinion on something they haven't even seen yet? dismiss all comment posters on youtube and ignore the people who think videos give bikers a bad name. It's nice to see videos of peoples favourite stretches of road, regardless of how there riding on it. People hate bikers irrationally and mostly because we do things on the road which appear to idiots as though we're hooning around the place when actually we're progressing safely through traffic and having more fun on the way home from work than they are.

These statements from people are typically hypocritical aswell, when riding a machine with the kind of prolonged acceleration only found on aircraft sticking to a speed limit is a seriously difficult task and i challenge anyone to stand up and say "i've never exceeded the speed limit when on a sportsbike". Bikes are toys at the end of the day, they arn't practical and a toys purpose is for having fun with. We all have fun in different ways and if some people have a problem with it they can go get fecked.

if you want some really entertaining examples of youtube comments from incredibly ignorant users just look at some military videos, the debates get absolutly hilarious with the bullshit bandied around :smt005

It was a nice vid jamz, dont listen to all those naysayers. GOGO BIKEVIDS!

a digital video is tbh inadmissable evidence. digital videos can be so easily tampered with that the police just wouldnt be able to make anything on it credible unless you actually go and stupidly admit to everything

Yes, I know they'd need an admission of guilt from me, and I could very easily say I lied to take credit for it, or (well not for this one) that I speeded the camera up.

But what are the rights with Police seizing stuff? Could they seize the recording media like the cam and or laptop? There's a slim chance they could if they can have reasonable cause to suspect it was used to record a criminal act, I think...

More likely in this case, it'd just be a pain in the ass having my name and reg marked on their files...

digital video is now admissable provided its backed up by other corroborating evidence, and sadly, this can be as little as a copper's opinion, all he/she has to do is decide they are going to do you, and then stand by that.

but you'll be fine jamz, the twit that got done from a youtube vid last year had his house in the vid, and was overtaking across double white lines and pulling 100mph wheelies in a 30 zone ..

talking of onboard footage, this is the route out to near where i work and back. the camera doesnt really do it justice, it's a lovely ride and the scenery is pretty cool too. some of those crests and valleys are a hell of a lot steeper than the camera makes out, i think a head cam would be better.

i think this might be classified as a more irresposible video, bit of fun on the first dry day for over a week.
