more speed is more fun better brakes mean you can brake later for corners more power on exit etc, obviously if the track dont have any straights then yes a smaller bike will have the advantage but you still have to take into account the acceleration out corners etc. if you went round the track on the 3 different bike which would you be quicker on. i much prefer to race myself when i go somewhere, sort of set my own time then i can see how much better i have become. if you push to someone elses limits you might over do it (iv done that, it took me months to get the confidence back).

i loved my 400,

had two, rvf and zxr

but wouldn't ever go back to one now. not slagging them off, i think they are a fantastic start bike or brilliant all round sports bike

but im a lazy rider, rather than concentrating on braking points and get on the gas early or late, i just rely on the big brute of an engine with my 7

Well I got the bike back from the dyno today and have started stripping the motor to find those missing ponies, still not sure what to do with it, Fix and sell or just break it as it has lots of goodies on it.
I guess if I keep an eye on e bay see what things sell for it will help me decide.
thanks for all the input :smt017

sounds like you've decided to get rid either way mate ..

you'll probably get more if you break it, just depends what your time is worth.

yea i think you will make more breaking it althoe that will be 1 less ZXR in the world. unless you bang it on e bay as a classified as the price you would like for it if you dont get an offer just break it.

Well the plot thickens.
the bike fuels perfectly on the dyno.... Runs on 4..... But is down on power,
58 instead of 74...
Just done a compression check
160 psi across the board, Now im buggered,
Do you think slight clutch slip would be obvious to a dyno operator????
Cos at the minuite im drawing blanks......
Cheers

doubt it, so its a possible, as is knackered chain/low tyre pressure, but i guess you'd have spotted that.

same dyno as previously i presume ?

do they need to take into account what sprockets are fitted ? and have you changed to a different ratio since the last run ?

sp cams yeh.. timing slipped ? (although thats unlikely to be responsible for a missing 16 hp now i think about it)

has it overheated at all ? cos if the cam journals have got tight and started to score up you'll lose a fair few HP due to friction.

is it at all possible the operator has just cocked up and pressed a wrong button and it's 68 ? got a road fairing you can chuck on for a quick razz up the road and back to see how she pulls ?

Hi Zimm
naa not overheated at all, Motor is nice and loose to turn over so im not expecting tight journals.
The only reason i suspect clutch slip is that I did a oil and filter change on it before the dyno and put in Pro 4 Plus fully synth, before it had pro 4 in it. I have read about the slip issues people have had with fully synthetic, but to be honest that is just clutching at straws,
My next plan is to whizz it all back together and as you say baz it down the road to see whats going on. under butt so to speak.
Sound sweet as though so I am beginging to wonder anout the dyno readout.... :smt017

clutch slip's a definitely maybe .. swapping from semi to fully synth without fresh plates could have done it.. but there's so many variables involved (brand of oil, age of clutch, position of the stars, are you the first born, that kinda stuff)

before now i've swapped to fully synth with no issues (didnt mean to, picked up the wrong oil in the garage.. DOH) and also developed mega clutch slip just swapping brands of semi-synth

slight over filling (top of sight glass) can cause slip too..

let us know how you get on, its certainly got me baffled.
