Urgent help, just broken down and left bike stranded !!!

hi guys,

just been out on my bike, its broken down about a mile away - just walked back

i was at a roundabout and it just cut out on me - i tried the ignition but nothing !

the batt seems fine as the lights etc... are all still working

however when i press the ignition it makes a kind of flat battery sound, and there is a ticking noise

any ideas how i can get it turned over so i can at least get it home ???

i ha this issue last night with it an the guy i brought it off had to come and push start it - i assume its the same as for a car, but it in first and pull the clutch out when at speed ???

any help would be much appreciated, i need to go and get it recovered asap !!!

hey mate, i live rugby, not too far away.
i would say you battery is either buggered, or your recifier, and the batteries not got enough power.
to jump a bike, push it to about 10-15 mph, in third gear, drop the clutch, and giveit some bollox.

yeah thanks got it running and back home

now its back here, no issues turning over again - so weird

any ideas what i should look at / replace ???

see what the battery is charging at to check reg/rec.

cutting out when hot, slim possibility of it running rich but that wouldnt explain problems cranking it over...

Hi mate, bad news when you've just bought it, check the voltage with lights off and then see if the battery maintains its voltage when you put the lights on, if it drops rev it and it should go back up, if it don't then its more than likely your rectifier.

just took it out for a bit around town - started fine, did a loop of leamington no worries, got to the hill back to my place and i was crawling along behind a taxi faffing about and same again! just went on me, just had to push it right to the top of the hill - then bump it on the down, to get it home !

you have possibly 2 issues here

cutting out AND being unable to restart

im still thinking overfuelling for some reason.

yeah its very odd ! im going to see baz tommorow as he's nearby, so fingers crossed he can work it out - well above my skill level at the moment im afraid - just have to keep it reving at lights / in slow traffic to stop it from doing it again until i get to him !

baz had a look at it this am - oesnt seem to be the rectifier, so we've tried taking off the aftermarket alarm that was fitted to it - figured this could be draining the power- there was also a dodgy fuel line, so could possibly have been fuel starvation

just got to wait and see! no problems so far, BUT i havent tried it at night yet with the lights on, thats when the other problems have occured

i used it all day sat with no further issues,

left it for 24 hours, came back to check the battery and it was reading 12.7 with the ignition on, when i turned it over, it reved fine, and was putting juice back into the battery.

I used it last night for 20 miles, left it and came back to it this morning, it was no reading 12.3 - should i be worried about this ? dodgy battery ? or is that OK?

Temperature i would have thought would have an effect on what the battery is reading at the terminals, but as long as it turns over and starts the bike i really wouldnt worry about it. Also, how long you have used it from when you last started the bike will depend how much its been charged. Have you tried it all with the lights on? As thats when you said yo seem to be having problems?

So looks like to be the fuel line? what was dodgy about it exactly?

think it was an airline off a fish tank rob, or a bit of heatshrink tubing can't believe it hadn't deteriorated from the fuel.

well whatever it was did the job ! done a good couple of hundred miles since and it hasnt cut out once, or failed to turn over
