carbs

Post by steve87 »

hi ,
i have a few running issues with my zxr.
it has the 32mm l carbs on a h1 engne. i have set them 2 turns out, but at tick over seems to be running pretty rich. ( so the guys following me said from the smell)
this problems i get is, when hot, sometimes it will just cut out at junctions, and will atke a bit to fire it up.
i am going to try in the next week or so to stick it on an emissions tester, to see what its running at, as i would like to know as im guessing this will confirm the richness.
it has an aftermarket exhaust can on it, but everything else is pretty standard.
i does have an older air filter, which i have cleaned and lightly oiled.
whats the best way to set the carbs right, people say aboutlean it up so it hangs at 2000 revs before dropping, is this the best way to do it?
also, someone mentioned it may be worth using a Vac gauge? to test the butterfyl positions, is that worth while.
all advice greatly needed biggrin

certainly worth balancing the carbs but thats not gonna change it from running rich.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.
