Seat fairing fitting on an L2

Post by Jez »

Hi folks,

Hope this is the right part of the forum - I'm a newbie here. I took delivery of my 400 yesterday - it's a L 1992 model, 20000 miles and in really good nick and running order. The only issue I can see (apart from the carbs needing setting properly) at the moment is a poor join in the seat farings - they don't join in the middle that well and the previous owner solved it with some black tape which looks nasty. I'm new to this bike so sorry if this is a stupid question but what, if anything, is usually used on this join? Cheers in advance for any advice! Jez

they should join mate, take both seat pads off, there should be 3 screws keeping them together, if they won't join then the subframe may be bent?

Thanks for quick reply, I'll have to investigate it later - hope it just some missing screws or broken lugs and not the subframe! Cheers, Jez

undo all the bolts holding the panels onto the frame then join the two halves together. try and refit and if the holes wont line up then the frame is bent.

there should be 2 bolts holding the plastics underneath the rear seat pad, these are probably missing too. or have rusted in, heads snapped off and the plastics are catching on the broken stubs which is why there may be a gap.

Thanks guys - I'll have a look at the bolts as well. You could be right as well Redex, they might be replacement plastics although they are ij the right colours. If they are nastys can anyone recommend a good make for replacements (I'm not going for anything on ebay from China - they all look well dodgy). Cheers. Jez
