fuel pump proplems! please help!!

Hi all, my bike is an L1 1990 grey import i had problems with the bike a few weeks ago that seemed to point to carb problems, fuel out the overflow, missfireing loss of power etc. i striped the carbs checkd, cleaned, lubed them put back together the bike started streight up, then died after about a minute. did this procces a few times no luck.
then it came clear to me that the too much fuel was getting forced into the cylinders and it was flooding the engine every time, FUEL PUMP! so i ran the bike bypassing the pump with the tank up high SUCCESS! it runs amazingly so we got on the phone rang for a new pump £160 new £55 from the breakers, went to the breakers (http://www.kenurwinmotorcycles.com) the guy there said the pump he was selling me had been checked and was in working order, bullshit got home fitted it no luck the bike still floods!!!

Has anyone every had a fuel pump break down on them before? can they be fixed? what do i do about being ripped off by this company!!!!! please help!!!!

So its sunday nite i have a bike in bits 2 broken fuel pumps and im down £50! o well could be worse could be raining !

Sounds more like a stuck float or leaking needle and seats.

broken pumps dont .. err, pump, they .. stop pumping

cocked up carbs will allow fuel to piss all over and never tell the pump to switch off though.

its most likely the o-rings that seal the float valve holder to the carb body.

mine did the same thing, when robb took the carbs apart and cleaned them and put them back together it was fine

Definately not the carbs. They've been stripped, checked, cleaned and rebuilt and work ace with gravity feed ie. pump bypassed.

The pump works but should shut off at 2.5 PSI but doesn't, then forces fuel into the cylinders big style. The switch works when manually operated. The switch is diaphragm operated, and on an 18 yr old bike has to be suspect, the diaphragm is cracked but still seals. Could be in it's cracked state it doesn't do the job properly? Could also be that the new/old pump has exactly the same problem and we are just unlucky? Anyone any experience of this?

Help! I need my bike back before it needs new tyres, chains, etc...

if you are convinced its the pump there's not much anyone can suggest except to tell you to buy another one.

Taking the water out of the tank helped a great deal i think Also reckon that gasket sealer was catching the float.

As has been said, the only reason fuel would piss out is floats geting stuck or the needles are worn. Id personally be checking both, making sure the floats actually float and the needles are nice n pointy.
