Why ?

Is there a problem ?

Have you been running with a damaged filter or no filter ?

Don't try to fix that which isn't broken

I've done the carbs on my race bikes many times and never found anything worth cleaning out.

I did have a ZXR 400 that was laid up for some time and the carbs had a gum like coating inside that certainly needed cleaning but never have I found a blocked jet or dirt in the bowls.........................

Same, taken me an hour to get the carbs off and strip them, only to find they were spotless.

Your probably right guys, was just thinking about it as a last resort, just can quite seem to get the bike running smooth, have balanced the carbs, run carb cleaner through 'em, got new inlet rubbers, one thing it might be is the air intake rubbers in the air box are bent and dont fit well into the carbs, so could be that, may have another play with the mixture screws. Just dont know what else to do really.

It seems to go up and down on the idle, revs seem to stick and then drop, also has flat spots when pulling away, sometimes its ok on the take off, sometimes its slow to accelerate. Also sounds a bit raspy. The sparks seem to be ok, new and with no fuel on them, did seem to be a bit of fuel in the intakes, but not a lot.

what colour are the plugs?

Might be worth getting the diaphragms out and check theres no splits. Easy job and something to tick off if everything else is fine.

This an H model? That could well be your problem. Im sure a few other have had this problem, in some cases the rubbers have melted.
