Best front paddock stand?

Post by Wabby »

I need a front paddock stand (getting sick of lifting front end while somebody takes wheel out, and then sitting the spindal on an axle stand).

Which is the best too get?

I think I want a headstock stand, as that way I can remove the forks, and this should fit all types of sportsbikes with a different size pin? (Is this correct?)

I want one as cheap as possible, but don't want something that is going to bend / fail within a small amount of time.

Any suggestions?

ive got a set of motrax aluminium paddock stands, which work well and (i think) look cool, although i did have to take a hacksaw to the rubber on the front one to clear the speedo drive.

the headstock ones are cool, but can foul the nosecone.

i've got that motrax rear stand and its bloody amazing. Got a micron front stand that tbh is just annoying because the only time you lift the front up is to

1. remove the front wheel.

if you try this on the TL the legs on stand stop you getting a socket onto it.

2. you want to take the forks out

Cant do this because your stand is on them...

If your doing track days and you want to get tyrer warmers on then there grate! Maintance wise you want a headstock one

Any recommendations on a headstock stand?

I had already narrowed it down to one of these, as I am going to change fork seals myself etc infuture.

Cheers :)

i've got a headstock stand, can't remember what make bought it from kenny roberts racing team :smt003 comes with 3 adaptors to fit different size headstocks, one thing i would mention tho is to watch the front nosecone as you lift as it can put stress on it and crack the nosecone. ideal for my gixer not tried it on the zxr yet, one of the best things i've ever bought.

Can anybody confirm if normal front stands fit/work on the ZXR400?

Need to get the wheel out ASAP, so need to get a stand ASAP.

By normal, i mean with this setup:

Just seen this on eBay, so I assume that a standard front stand will fit?

would have thought thats what 90% of zxr400 owners use as a front stand unless they use bobbins on the fork bottoms?

Hmm seems the question of headstock stands is unanswered, anyone got a headstock stand they currently use on a zxr that doesnt break the nose cone? Or failing that a good one that doesnt cost an arm. Not talking cheap toad, something in the middle of the market would be good for me.

I'd personally get an Abba stand and then prop the bike up under the exhaust headers. The stands arent cheap - but they are fantastic :D

I have the Harris version of this stand, it toads me off quite often falling off, the type that has the two prongs that fit inside the end of the fork leg is far better and more sturdy. I'd say the stainless Harris stands are the best for lengevity and are nice and solid but they cost a few quid.

I saw a stand on ebay from a german seller that was i think about 28 quid and had the two prongs i mention. I'll be getting one of them.

I have a Micron paddock stand which I also have the adapter to fit the headstock.
I have used it on the ZXR and it does not foul the nose cone.
There are adapters that you must buy if your bike has a different diameter of stem cause you only get a few of the main types with the stand.

I have had mine for about 6 years and its been great.
You can remove both wheels as well as front forks which was the main reason I bought this type.
You must use it along with another paddock stand to support the rear of the bike before lifting the front.

It does not fit taller bikes as the reach is not long enough i.e my other bike TDM850
