so called"vehicle stop check"
i got pulled over by one of the many undercover cop cars today i think it was a redditch one driving around studley. are their stop checks really random because i find it odd how they go for the noisy bike and none of the cars that were around at the time. any of you guys get stopped much just for these so called "checks"? made me late for an interview!

Re: so called"vehicle stop check"
tend to find 'random checks' right next to bike meets in kent. There was a regular stop check at a particular meet, my mates had been stopped a couple of times by them and thier exact words were 'this is a random check for cars and bikes', yet we had never ever seen em pull a car over. First thing they would go for is the exhaust can, trying to rub out the eu stamp to make sure its not been printed on (why?). Then itd be the plate. They never even checked the brakes or tyre tread, but i think that may be due to them not being qualified to do so and you being able to sue them if they got it wrong?
But to be fair if you go round with a noisy can and small plate your making yourself a target for them anyway.
Did they do you for anything?

Re: so called"vehicle stop check"
Did he say anything about the can at all?
Last time I got pulled (Black Skoda Octavia), I was overtaking him just before a 30 zone, and noticed as I was alongside, blipping the throttle down through the gears underneath a big echoey motorway bridge!
I carried on at the speed limit, trying to ride as confidently as I could, but of course about half a mile later the sirens came on.
Despite blatantly being a race can on the old VFR, he never even mentioned it, and just wanted to see my documents...
I couldn't really argue with that.
(especially because I was right by my house so made him wait for ages while I found all the docs there and then!)

Re: so called"vehicle stop check"
Altho not real coppers i got pulled over by a couple of C.S.O's
They pulled me over outside my college and pulled me over right into a deep curb dip in the road, they asked me to turn my bike off which i told them i wasn't happy doing so as my KLR is kick start and if i tried kicking it over in the dip the bike wud just fall over, his reason for pulling me over was that my exhaust was far too loud! He didnt have a leg to stand on when i told him that its a stock exhaust without removeable baffles. thwey stood there umming and ahhing for about 5 minutes, i had enough so asked if they wanted to make anything else up to annoy me with and asked if they were done wasting my time, annoyed the f*** out of em by popping a wheelie and shooting down the road
If it were the real coppers i'd never have acted like that but at the end of the day community support officers are a bunch of powerless idiotic time wasters who do nothing but ride around on their bikes and get in the way when your riding!
Its ridiculous the amount of prejudice u receive just because you ride on 2 wheels.

If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.

Re: so called"vehicle stop check"
How on earth a cop knows how loud it should be a exhaust? VOSA yes but a cop do not have any technical qualifications or training plus they need a decibel meter , unless u got a can which is stamped (not for road use) they can't do nothing , i don't have to prove I'm innocent they have to prove I'm breaking the law(if)

Re: so called"vehicle stop check"
Jeeze, I'm really quite amazed at the apparent lack of respect! I personally have absolutely no issue with being stopped, if it in anyway increases teh likelyhood of catching an idiot its a good thing. I also think that breathalising everyone they stop would also be a good idea. I've been to several other European countries which set up road blocks, and _every_ car driver / motorcyclist is stopped and breathalised
Sure, some coppers are on ego trips and have it in for bikers, but on the same note, several ppl on here seem to have a similar prejudice against car drivers.
At the end of the day, Ive said it before - loud cans are cop magnets. If you don't want to be stopped, don't draw attention to yourself

Re: so called"vehicle stop check"
meh, iv never been stopped by the cops and my can is loud, carbon race can, not for road use but has no stamp.
i think if i were to get stopped the odd time i would be ok with it, but i know what its like bein stopped every day from when i had my first car, i was getting a producer for every day of the week, yes it looked dodgy with me an me mates riding round at nite but i think they should have a computer that tells them you have been stopped recently so dont bother unless they are driving a little dodgy.
in the end me mom went to the cop shop and filed a complaint, and low an behold iv had no producers in about 6 years

Re: so called"vehicle stop check"
The way I hear it, if you have all your documents when they pull you over, it creates a 'shitload' of paperwork and is very costly to their time - whereas if they give you a producer their admin staff will deal with it when you take the stuff in.
Personally, I don't have a problem with being pulled over as they are just doing their job, and as long as you don't act like a Tit-Head there's every chance they'll be fine with you.
I think in 9 years I've been stopped 4 times - 2 when I was doing courier work and 1 when I was stopped on The Cloverleaf and definitely Up To No Good. None of those resulted in a producer.

Re: so called"vehicle stop check"
Got stoped by a bmw m5 on my kwak just before christmas. when i was having broblems with carb icing
so sat at a set of lights blipping throttle while along side a chaved up nova. didnt brake the speedlimits etc . just had to keep revs up to keep it stallign and my bike is umm loud ? hahaha. and the copper got out his torch and said ti was tooo loud had no baffles bla bla bla. but i just said it was on it when i bought it , it passed its mot last weekend with it. and played dumb when he put the torch int he end and said 'look its a race pipe' to what i replied it doesnt say anywhere :S so i assumed it was ok and asked him if i could by baffles. int he end he let me go but followed me for ages
oh and my ns125 i ue to get pulled 1-2 times a week cos she was loud and looked rough as a badgers bottom , but when liek poo of a shovel (21.7 or so bhp at the back wheel before i added the bigger carb + Ledar jets ) damn i miss her
use to wheelie in first and second and best thign was the l plates blitzing most boy racers of the lights and then tellign them there car was abit slow at the next set of lights and i was on 'l' plates
and she was good for true 95 mph

That cracked me up. Reading through Caz's gentle post, then this underneath!
My friend got pulled years ago on his 80cc and the officer pulled his clutch lever and said "your back brake doesn't work". My friend explained that he was pulling the clutch lever and the officer quickly finished his "check" and sent him on his way.

Makes me laugh how little they know about bikes :p
